📣We’re happy to share another great adaptive sports opportunity coming up this fall!!

Angel City Sports Courage Weekend will be held October 9–10, 2026 in Los Angeles and is open to Veterans, Active Duty service members, and First Responders.

Friday will include a full day of golf, followed by a multi-sport day on Saturday.

If you’ve been looking for a chance to get involved in adaptive sports, meet others, or just try something new, this is a good one to check out.

This is a great opportunity for caregivers and families of Veterans to learn more about the programs, services, and resources available to support them.

Congratulations to one of our own, William “Bud” McElroy!

We are so happy to share some incredible news about Cal-Diego member Command Sergeant Major William “Bud” McElroy, who was surprised on Good Morning America with a mortgage-free smart home from Tunnel to Towers, the New York Jets and Woody Johnson.

Bud is a Purple Heart recipient whose lifetime of service didn’t stop when he was injured in Iraq. Those of us who know Bud know how much he continues to give back to his fellow Veterans and his community!

This time, it was Bud’s turn to be on the receiving end. ❤️

Congratulations, Bud! We couldn’t be happier for you and your family. Very well deserved!

❄️Applications are OPEN for the 2027 National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic

📅 Application deadline: November 30, 2026

Before applying, please make sure to review the eligibility requirements. Qualifying disabilities may include spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, amputations, visual impairments and CVA with residual effects.

The 2027 application lists these as common non-qualifying diagnoses:
• Low back pain, even if you’ve had surgery
• Fibromyalgia
• Degenerative joint disease / osteoarthritis
• PTSD
• Chronic pain

All disabilities are reviewed by the Winter Sports Clinic Medical Director and Program Director, and Veterans must be eligible for VA care.

All accepted participants are required to ski. The current limits are 220 lbs. for sit-down skiing and 300 lbs. for stand-up skiing.

Sharing for anyone in the St. Petersburg area who may be interested!

Move United and its partners are hosting a FREE Adaptive Sports Camp September 18th, 19th and 20th from 10 AM to 2 PM at Lex Gym in St. Petersburg, Florida.

They’ll have rugby, basketball, archery, pickleball, table tennis and football, with instruction available for participants.

This is open to everyone, so if you’ve been wanting to try adaptive sports or know someone who has, check out the flyer for the registration QR code and details.

📢VetSurf® is Coming to San Diego! 🇺🇸

Cal-Diego PVA is proud to share AmpSurf’s VetSurf® Adaptive Surf Therapy Program, happening August 25–29, 2026 in San Diego.

⚠️ IMPORTANT BEFORE YOU REGISTER: Please read the full Eventbrite details carefully. There is a required deposit, along with important information about lodging, transportation, and participation requirements.

Veterans who register are expected to participate in all scheduled activities.

🙋 Volunteers are needed too! AmpSurf is looking for surf instructors, water assists, beach assists, safety volunteers, and booth support for the surf clinics August 26–28.

🏀Wheelchair basketball players needed this weekend!

We’re helping the PVA California Chapter spread the word about the grand opening of a new wheelchair basketball court in Van Nuys this Saturday, August 8.

They are looking for players to join a fun exhibition game and be among the first to play on the new court. Experienced players and beginners are welcome.

The event starts at 10:30 AM, with the exhibition game from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Birmingham Community Charter High School, 17000 Haynes Street, Van Nuys.

Since the event is this weekend, please reach out as soon as possible if you would like to participate.
