Many seniors struggle to afford basic necessities. While often overlooked, incontinence products are critical to a senior’s dignity, comfort, and independence, yet many simply can’t afford them. Your support can make a difference right away.

This month, consider donating new, unopened incontinence products and gift to a senior in need.

We partnered with the UC San Diego Sam and Rose Stein Institute for Research on Aging to host our first Mini Symposium on Healthy Aging at the Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center! Seniors enjoyed learning from these experts about resilience, social connections, and daily exercise. We’re grateful to the Stein Institute team and presenters for making research accessible to our senior community. We're looking forward to our continued partnership!

We are incredibly grateful to the 100+ San Diego State University alumni who joined us at the Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center for their annual Day of Service this past Saturday! Their creativity and enthusiasm filled the room as they crafted beautiful "Under the Sea" decorations for our upcoming senior prom.

Deloitte is a champion for older adults in San Diego. Today, their team sponsored bingo, created wellness cards, and served lunch to our older adults at the Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center. What an amazing day of service and engagement with our community. Thank you, Deloitte, for your support and investments in our programs.

One of our middle school volunteer groups organized a donation drive on behalf of Serving Seniors, collecting an incredible 208 items.
In a letter, one of the students wrote: "Thank you for letting us volunteer at Serving Seniors. It's been an honor to work with you. To thank you, we have reached out to our community and have collected some donations for you. We are proud to say we have made an impact from just volunteering four weeks."
We're so grateful for their compassion and commitment to making a difference.

We're grateful to Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera for his ongoing support for shallow rental subsidy efforts to fund programs that prevent older adult homelessness. They are cost-efficient and far more humane.

It's a landmark day for Serving Seniors as we introduced a new shallow rental subsidy program, made possible through funding by Green Vistas of San Diego and an anonymous donor who provided matching funds for this two-year program - a total of $760,000 to prevent 40 older adults at risk of losing housing from becoming homeless. Several of our recipients joined us along with San Diego City Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera, J.D., and Green Vistas President Lara Gates

The need remains great as the number of people aged 55 and up who are losing housing grows every year in San Diego County. Funding for prevention is the most effective way to fight back.

Seniors had a fantastic trip to the San Diego History Center this week! They enjoyed an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Taste San Diego: Filipino Culinary Journeys exhibit and learned about Filipino history in San Diego, with a special focus on food. Everyone even got to try some Filipino dishes when they returned to the Wellness Center! It was a wonderful exhibit and we are very grateful to the History Center for this memorable tour.
