“Children also need books.”

We couldn’t agree more. ❤️

We’re proud to be named alongside fellow community partners working to put more books into the hands of San Diego children. Since 2016, the San Diego Council on Literacy has helped secure and distribute more than 500,000 books valued at over $5 million—an incredible investment in the power of reading.

And the need continues. Every child deserves access to books that inspire curiosity, build confidence, and open new worlds.

At Words Alive, we’re grateful to be part of this collective effort—and we know that together, we can get more books into the hands of more children. 📖

✨ 1,341 incredible volunteers brought the joy of reading to classrooms, homes, community spaces, and beyond.

Because of YOU, stories became adventures, reading became a habit, and children discovered that books can open doors to endless possibilities. 💚📖

📚 Calling all Book Group Volunteers! 🦸‍♀️

This fall, Words Alive is partnering with Feeding San Diego to bring Hunger Action Heroes Unite to 4th and 5th graders at SDUSD Title 1 schools.

Volunteers will help students read, discuss, and explore food access in their own communities—while building connection, curiosity, and confidence through reading. 💚📖

We had an amazing time at Assemblymember Tasha Boerner's Backpack Giveaway at the San Diego Central Library! 🎒✨️

Our team was proud to hand out over 400 books, while serving nearly 1000 children, youth and families!Kids of all ages had a blast getting creative and making their own custom bookmarks to kick off the new school year.

Getting critical resources into students' hands is key to starting the new school year on the right foot.
