🩷 Welcome home, Yisell 🩷

For Yisell, home means so much more than a place to live.

She is a single mom of six, enrolled in school and working part-time while raising her family. Her children are all in school, and through it all, Yisell has worked tirelessly to create a life where they feel safe, loved, and cared for.

A place where she can cook for them.

A place where they can gather.

A place where they can grow together.

Yisell loves fitness, treasures time with her family, and pours her heart into building a life rooted in connection, strength, and hope.

Today, her home is more than four walls.

It is a safe haven for her children.

A place filled with warmth and belonging.

A place where family can come together.

After all she has given—and all she continues to do—Yisell now has a home that reflects the love she has always poured into her family.

She has a fresh start.
She has a safe place.
She has HOME.

🧡Welcome Home Chasity🧡

This Wednesday we welcomed Chasity and her kids into their newly furnished apartment.

The long hard road of homelessness ended three months ago when Chasity and her family moved into their apartment, but only today did it feel like home!

As Chasity and her son posed on the new leather couch for a photo, tiny Faye — their guard pup — leapt into their arms and with a contented bark, joined the festivities.

Not pictured are Chasity’s daughter and four other children plus a grandbaby, all of whom Chasity looks forward to hosting in her new home.

Chasity began experiencing homelessness in a different state and had to relocate to California to start over after significant challenges. The road was not easy, but she persevered.

Today she has turned it all around.

No more leaky air mattresses and eating on the floor. The Humble Design team swept through their apartment with our trusted volunteers. Movers Jim and Olson made it all look easy as Barb, Carolyn, Celia and Donna seamlessly, cleaned, organized and placed all items to perfection. Thank you! We could not do it without you, both at the deco and in the warehouse. Special shoutout to Kim, Barb and Celia and friends for the help at the warehouse.

Thank you to Chasity and her family who were a delight to meet. We wish you very happy times in your new home!

Welcome home Erika! 🧡

Last Friday, we had the honor of helping Erika and her boys turn their new house into a warm, peaceful place they can truly call home. It was a beautiful opportunity to celebrate a fresh start and create a space that reflects their personalities, interests, and hopes for the future.

Erika envisioned a light, calm, and minimal space with soft colors, plants, and artwork inspired by nature. She is excited to have a furnished home that provides comfort and stability for her family and creates an environment where she can continue working toward her goals.

The boys’ room was a special priority. Storage cubes in their closet give each boy a designated place for his clothes and belongings, while their room celebrates what makes each of them unique. Her older son loves black and gray, Demon Slayer, and creating his own comics, so he now has space to explore his creativity. Her younger son loves Sonic, LEGOs, and bright colors—especially orange and blue. Giving each boy a space that feels like his own will help make their new house truly feel like home.

One and a half years ago, Erika made the brave decision to leave an unhealthy relationship and begin a new chapter for herself and her children. With the support of East County Transitional Living Center, she and her boys were able to rebuild and move forward. Today, Erika is working as a dental technician and looking toward the future, with hopes of returning to school to expand her career opportunities and earning potential.

We are so proud to celebrate this exciting new chapter with Erika and her boys. Their home is now a place to grow, create, dream, and build new memories together. Thank you to all our volunteers from San Diego Padres Foundation, who really stepped up during an unseasonably hot day to fulfill all of the family’s wishes! And to the warehouse volunteers who did their part in our hot warehouse - none of this would be possible without you!

Welcome home, Erika! We are so happy for you and your boys and excited for all that lies ahead! 🏡🧡

🩷 Welcome home, Cynthia 🩷

When Cynthia walked into her new home, she already knew one thing for sure—she wanted her world to be pink.

As a young mom raising her daughter, Cynthia is creating a life filled with the things that bring her joy. She loves the ocean, so we brought touches of that peaceful, coastal feeling into their home. And everywhere we could, we added the pink she loves so much—a reminder that this home was created just for her and her little girl.

But this home is about so much more than color and beautiful spaces.

It’s about a young mom learning to cook in her own kitchen, dreaming about the meals she’ll make, and counting down the days until she can have her family gathered around her table. It’s about having a place where her daughter can feel safe, loved, and rooted.

It’s about finally being able to say, “This is our home.”

A home gives us more than a place to sleep. It gives us a place to dream. A place to gather. A place to heal. A place to build a future.

Thank you to our warehouse team Victoria, Kim and Sue for picking, packing and getting us ready for today. Your help is always so much appreciated.

Such a joy to be a partner in this innovative collaboration — looking forward to having these beautiful spaces called homes by 16 US veterans. 🧡

We’re proud to celebrate the grand opening of Bethel One, YIGBY’s first affordable housing development, created in partnership with Bethel AME Church in Logan Heights 🏡 Several years ago, the Lucky Duck Foundation provided seed funding to help launch the YIGBY pilot program and its innovative approach to transforming underutilized faith-based land into much-needed affordable housing. Today, that vision has become a reality: 26 new permanent homes, including 16 for veterans and 10 for seniors.

A special thank you to Bethel AME Church, YIGBY, and everyone who helped bring this project to life, including Humble Design San Diego which beautifully furnished all 16 veterans’ homes. Bethel One is YIGBY’s first project — and we’re excited to see what comes next as this model creates even more opportunities for housing throughout our community.

Congratulations to everyone who made this milestone possible. Together, we can continue creating pathways to safe, stable housing for San Diegans 🍀

This Wednesday, we had the honor of helping Mariana and Omare, begin a new and healthier chapter together. As they stepped into their newly transformed space, they looked around in disbelief and asked, “Whose home is this? This isn’t our home!” After months of sleeping in their car and staying in a hotel, the reality of having a place to call their own felt almost too good to believe. Mariana and Omare worked tirelessly to make this moment possible, remaining determined through every challenge to hold the keys to a home that represented safety, stability, and comfort.

With the help of three incredible volunteers—Traci, Mark, and Dana—we transformed their space into a warm and welcoming home where they can finally settle in and look toward what comes next. For Mariana and Omare, home is about more than four walls. Every Friday evening, they gather with family, celebrating the bond they share and the support that carries them through life. Now, they have a place where those gatherings can continue—a space filled with comfort, connection, and the promise of a beautiful new beginning together.

This day would not have been possible without our partner agency San Diego Rescue Mission . Sabrina, Katrina, Sebastian, and Vanessa came to witness this monumental transition in support of these amazing women and their new beginning. Thank you for all that you do!
