🧡 Welcome Home Allan 🧡
This Wednesday, we were thrilled to welcome Allan home.
After losing his daughter in 2019, Allan needed a safe, quiet place to grieve and heal. Instead, he struggled to regain stability, leading to homelessness and substance use. With support from Scott and others at the San Diego Rescue Mission South County Lighthouse, Allan has made remarkable progress and is now celebrating 13 months in recovery.
Allan has lived in his studio apartment for five months. Before Humble Design arrived, the space was furnished with borrowed institutional-style pieces that never felt like his own. Shiny plastic surfaces, sharp corners, and metal furniture made the apartment feel cold and impersonal. Allan wanted a home that felt warm, comfortable, and welcoming.
When we asked about his vision, Allan requested warm autumn hues, a comfortable couch for relaxing and watching TV, and a bed suited to his height. With the help of our wonderful volunteers, Teresa and Dana B., his apartment was transformed from a sparse, sterile space into a cozy retreat.
This joyful morning would not have been possible without our dedicated warehouse volunteers, who sorted, organized, and gathered all the kitchen and bathroom essentials. A special thank to Kim, who packed Allan’s items with exceptional care and attention to detail.
Every homecoming like Allan’s reminds us that a thoughtfully designed space can do more than furnish a room—it can restore dignity, support healing, and provide a foundation for a brighter future. Thanks to the generosity of our volunteers, donors, and supporters, Allan now has a home that reflects his strength, resilience, and hope.
Congratulations, Allan! We are so proud of your progress and wish you continued happiness, health, and success in the years ahead. If Allan’s story inspires you, please consider supporting Humble Design so more individuals and families emerging from homelessness can experience the comfort, stability, and belonging everyone deserves.
