The National City Chamber Foundation is proud to reveal the Manuel "Memo" Cavada mural located on the side of The National City Chamber. Chicano muralist Guillermo "Yermo" Aranda and Salvador Barajas, famous for murals at Chicano Park, honored their friend with a beautiful mural.

The National City Chamber of Commerce together with the City of National City will honor the men and women of service in the United States Navy during the 64th Annual Salute to Navy luncheon on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at the Harley-Davidson (3201 Hoover Ave, National City, CA 91950).

National City’s Salute to Navy has been a longstanding tradition for the past 63 years. National City holds this event every year during the month of October which celebrates the Navy’s birthday. This is the first and longest-running event of its kind in the United States.

National City is home to Naval Base San Diego, the principal homeport of the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Sailors, their families, civilians, local elected officials, and the general public are invited to attend this event. After a year-long break due to Covid, we are excited to continue honoring our military community, as they are an integral part of National City.

Cavada. The Mural is to serve as a memorial to the National City documentarian, photographer, decorated veteran, youth advocate, community leader, and commemorate his contribution by capturing National City’s culture, local Chicano history, and images depicting his work and travels locally and abroad during his travels to Mexico.
