Thank you to Alyssa Ravasio, Founder & CEO of Hipcamp, for taking the time to join us for the California Natural Resources Agency Outdoors For All event on Tuesday! It is always great to hear from and have the support of our member CEOs. Alyssa spoke on an Equitable Access panel led by Deputy Secretary for Federal Affairs Sara Aminzadeh alongside S.J. Joslin, Resources Legacy Fund California Director Alfredo Gonzalez, and Luis Villa, Executive Director of Latino Outdoors. It was a worthwhile conversation, moving, and honestly our favorite panel discussion to listen to recently. Thanks to the panelists and moderator for all the work you do to make California's public lands an example of !

It takes champions on the outside and inside of government to make positive change. Yesterday, California Outdoor Recreation Partnership Board Member Amy Betts from REI Co-op and our Director Lexie Gritlefeld had the chance to meet and thank California's First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom for her efforts and work behind standing up the Outdoors For All strategy, movement on the strategy plan for all Californians, and her dedication to funding and improving equitable access to the majestic gems of California State Parks. Keep making waves! 🌊

Programming at our 4th Annual Basecamp kicked off in partnership with with TCA Board Member Ben MacAskill, President & COO of / . Ben presented a Brands for Public Lands Workshop for our members and covered how TCA is working to push back against the Federal Administration on public lands roll backs like Chuckwalla National Monument and standing up against repealing the USFS Roadless Rule and BLM Public Lands Rule. These initiatives are not only important for conservation, but outdoor recreation protection is a key focus as well.

After partnering with TCA on the launch of our Impact on Tap Happy Hour series, this was our third event we partnered with TCA on and we are excited to see where the partnership continues in 2026. Thanks to TCA for sending Ben and to Ben for lending his time and knowledge to us at Basecamp!

Join California Outdoor Recreation Partnership for a webinar about how to create, implement, and grow an Office of Outdoor Recreation! We will have guest speaker Jason Curry, Director of the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation (DOR). Governor Herbert created Utah's Office of Outdoor Recreation January 2013 as a result of the large contribution the industry plays in Utah's economy. It was the first Office of Outdoor Recreation in the country! As part of DNR, DOR combines the nation’s first Office of Outdoor Recreation with other state recreation management programs, including Utah’s Boating Program, Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Program, and recreation rangers. DOR’s focus areas include recreational access; safety and education; stewardship and sustainable visitation; and economic growth and opportunity through outdoor recreation.

Speaker:

Jason Curry - Director, Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation (DOR) - Curry was appointed Director of DOR in December 2022.  Prior to DOR, Curry served as deputy director of the Division of Forestry Fire and State Lands, overseeing six state area offices, the division’s law enforcement program, public affairs, and its safety program. Before being promoted to deputy director, he was the division’s public information officer and chief investigator. He also served many years on the Davis County Search and Rescue Team. Curry started his career with the DNR in 1999 as a public affairs coordinator, where he served for eight years orchestrating public information and branding for the department. He graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in economics. Jason resides in Bountiful, Utah with his wife and two children. He enjoys mountain biking, skiing, OHV and snowmobile riding, rock climbing, camping, sailing and just about any other form of outdoor recreation.
