We're first kicking off our week with a Board & Staff Retreat and then welcoming our members and partners to join us in Healdsburg. We've got local Sonoma County recreation access legends launching our programming with a lot of fun outdoor outings, w**e tastings, and more to keep us busy!

It's the last day to submit public comment to protect the Roadless Rule! You can submit yours here: https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/FS-2025-0001-223869

California Outdoor Recreation Partnership's Director Lexie Gritlefeld and Board Chair Kenji Haroutunian submitted a letter in opposition of the rescission of the roadless rule on behalf of our Board of Directors and members.

"Our members' customers hike, fish, hunt, ride, paddle, climb and camp in California's national forests. For 25 years, the Roadless Rule has kept the backcountry those customers come for intact. Rescinding it would put the core product of our industry at risk, with no clear benefit in return."

On behalf of California Outdoor Recreation Partnership, thank you to the California Natural Resources Agency and Deputy Secretary for Biodiversity & Habitat Madeline Drake for hosting the 2026 30x30 Summit yesterday at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco!

Facing the Six Mass Extinction feels daunting and heavier words than I can process this morning, especially as an optimist who naturally wakes up happy. California has conserved 27.1% of its land as of September 2026, putting the state very close to its goal of protecting 30% by 2030. However, California has only been able to conserve 21.9% of its coastal waters and the sunflower sea star disease outbreak has led to California has losing an estimated 90% of its total historical kelp forests. Protecting biodiversity and habitat is at an all-time importance. Not only for the future sustainability of access to the outdoors but for humanity and wildlife to survive. It's heavy.

There are a lot of incredible people doing amazing work towards reaching 30x30 and the Summit is a good way to connect with colleagues who a lot of times feel siloued in this work. Governor Newsom showed up. I know he cares about climate change and has been one of the rare champions of climate resiliency, but unfortunately that is not hard. Our country and our state are not champions on environmental and conservation issues yet. Maybe someday our leadership will make it the top priority.

Thank you to Secretary Wade Crowfoot, Deputy Secretary Sara Aminzadeh, Assemblymember Chris Rogers, José González, Annie Burke, and so many others for making conservation and protection of our natural resources from development, oil, and gas a priority.

Let's stop calling public lands "undeveloped land." It's nature and our habitat needs it to survive.

What an honor it was to host the Outdoors for All Field Convening in Sacramento last Thursday alongside the California Natural Resources Agency! 🌲

We kicked things off with a tour of the American River Parkway Foundation's Outdoor Education Site, then gathered at Sacramento Valley Conservancy's Camp Po***ck for a day of conversation about how we make California's outdoors truly welcoming and accessible for every Californian with sustainable recreation. A heartfelt thank you to Secretary Wade Crowfoot and Deputy Secretary for Access Gloria Sandoval for their leadership and support on this initaitive. Thank you to Dianna Poggetto and Jackie Hadley from the American River Parkway Foundation for giving us a tour and hosting us in the morning.

Special thanks to Jose Gonzalez, M.S for leading us through the mentimeter excercise and getting our brains jogging! Thank you to every speaker who shared their work on equitable access, including our local spotlights on the Sacramento Valley Conservancy with Executive Director Kelly Hopkins, Kaitlin Levenstrong and Galen Licht on the partnership between SeaTrek and Oakland Goes Outdoors, a powerful example of what equitable access looks like on the ground, and Sharon Sand speaking on behalf of Trust for Public Land's work and the ParkScore. Thanks for your work in making parks and green spaces more accessible for all Californians!

Join California Outdoor Recreation Partnership for a webinar focused on outdoor recreation at the local level — how a mountain community is building its recreation economy, collaborating with federal land managers through a local level Office of Outdoor Recreation, and is actively working to protect the public lands that make it all possible.

This session turns from the state and national view of our past episodes to the ground level: Mammoth Lakes and California's Eastern Sierra. We'll hear how local leadership is driving outdoor recreation economic development, the work an Office of Outdoor Recreation can do at the local level, and why the fight against the proposed No Hot Creek Mine on USFS land matters for the region's recreation future.

A few weeks ago, our Director, Lexie Gritlefeld, joined The Surfrider Foundation, Outdoor Outreach, Azul, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Coare, Environment California, and California Public Interest Research Group Students (CALPIRG Students) for California Ocean Day @ The Capitol to advocate for the ocean and celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Coastal Act and the Coastal Conservancy! A priority bill for California Outdoor Recreation Partnership included in the advocacy was SB 1268 (Gonzalez), which would codify the Outdoors for All Initiative.

Lexie led Team Rockfish in a lobby meeting with Assemblymember Steve Bennett (D-Ventura), who is a champion for California's oceans and beaches. Team Rockfish also included Miho Ligare, Fabienne Sowa, PhD, Stephanie Barger, Marty Farrell, and Sarah Buchanan. Go Team Rockfish! 🪨🐟🌊
