Join California Outdoor Recreation Partnership for a webinar focused on outdoor recreation at the local level β€” how a mountain community is building its recreation economy, collaborating with federal land managers through a local level Office of Outdoor Recreation, and is actively working to protect the public lands that make it all possible.

This session turns from the state and national view of our past episodes to the ground level: Mammoth Lakes and California's Eastern Sierra. We'll hear how local leadership is driving outdoor recreation economic development, the work an Office of Outdoor Recreation can do at the local level, and why the fight against the proposed No Hot Creek Mine on USFS land matters for the region's recreation future.

Speakers:

-John Wentworth β€” Town Councilmember, Town of Mammoth Lakes; President, Mammoth Lakes Trails & Public Access Foundation (MLTPA)

-Lawson Reif β€” Manager of Outdoor Recreation, Office of Outdoor Recreation, Town of Mammoth Lakes (TOML)

-Emily Markstein β€” Co-Founder, No Hot Creek Mine Campaign

Moderator:

-Lexie Gritlefeld β€” Director, California Outdoor Recreation Partnership

A few weeks ago, our Director, Lexie Gritlefeld, joined The Surfrider Foundation, Outdoor Outreach, Azul, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Coare, Environment California, and California Public Interest Research Group Students (CALPIRG Students) for California Ocean Day @ The Capitol to advocate for the ocean and celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Coastal ActΒ and the Coastal Conservancy!Β A priority bill for California Outdoor Recreation Partnership included in the advocacy was SB 1268 (Gonzalez), which would codify the Outdoors for All Initiative.

Lexie led Team Rockfish in a lobby meeting with Assemblymember Steve Bennett (D-Ventura), who is a champion for California's oceans and beaches. Team Rockfish also included Miho Ligare, Fabienne Sowa, PhD, Stephanie Barger, Marty Farrell, and Sarah Buchanan. Go Team Rockfish! πŸͺ¨πŸŸπŸŒŠ

Our coastlines are not for sale. 🌊

We stand with our friends , , and .vc in opposing the reopening of the Sable Pipeline β€” a direct threat to California's coastal communities, marine ecosystems, and the outdoor spaces we all depend on.

California has made a promise to protect its wild places. Reopening this pipeline breaks that promise. We won't stay silent.

πŸ“’ No more pipelines!

Surf's up, California! πŸ„β€β™€οΈπŸ‚ Ride the wave with Assemblymember Chris Rogers and support AB 2578, the Outdoor Access & Recreation Economy (OARE) Act.

AB 2578 will pave the way for an opportunity for better funding equitable access to nature and our outdoor economy by establishing a support entity to help with collaboration between the California Natural Resources Agency and the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz). The support will include relationship building with federal and local land managers to better support our gateway communities to public lands statewide. Join us by supporting AB 2578!

At our Impact on Tap Happy Hour in Sacramento, we had the deep gratitude of honoring a champion for California's natural resources and wild places, Senate President pro Tempore Monique LimΓ³n!

Thank you, Pro Tem LimΓ³n, for fifteen years of steadfast dedication to public service and more to come! Thank you for your tireless dedication to equitable access to the outdoors, ensuring the outdoors are for all for generations to come. We were grateful to honor your vision that the outdoors are for all Californians.

We also were welcomed by Assemblymember Chris Rogers, author of AB 2578: Outdoor Access & Recreation Economy Act! How lucky are we to have legislative champions for outdoor access and recreation in California. β˜ΊοΈπŸŒ²πŸ•πŸŒŠ
