LEAP for Education is a nonprofit organization empowering underserved students in the North Shore to achieve social and economic mobility by cultivating personal, educational, and career growth. We do this by teaching students academic and life-skills needed to perform at higher levels in middle school and high school. Students also receive ongoing personalized support and community connections which helps them graduate from college and create a future based on their strengths and interests.

This spring, students at our Lynn Teen Center dove into the world of programming and robotics through Tech Builders Club. With guidance from longtime LEAP supporter Joon Lee of Google, they designed, built, and programmed their very own robot. Last week, they put their skills to the test—troubleshooting final challenges before racing their creations through a timed course.

It was an exciting way to wrap up the club as we gear up for a fun and impactful summer ahead!

This school year, Dream MORE students at Marshall Middle School explored the importance of healthy eating—learning how to cook on a budget and examining the challenges many people face in accessing nutritious food consistently. Along the way, they strengthened their math skills by practicing budgeting and scaling recipes in real-world contexts.
Their hard work culminated in a student-created cookbook and presentation, where they built and showcased their literacy and language skills by writing recipes, documenting their research, and clearly communicating their ideas and experiences in the kitchen. To top it all off, they had the opportunity to present their projects to their peers and celebrate everything they accomplished!
Thank you, Comes First, for helping make this impactful experience possible!

Yesterday, LEAP for Education was honored to welcome Andrea Joy Campbell, Massachusetts Attorney General, to the Salem Career & Education Teen Center as part of her Youth Power Tour. Joined by Manny Cruz— our Salem State Representative and LEAP alum—she spoke with our high school students about the challenges they face and the priorities they hold as members of their community.

What followed was a meaningful and productive conversation where students practiced using their voices to advocate for change while building stronger connections with state leaders. Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared, and listened!

We’re excited to share that Kayla Dorst, a 14-year veteran of LEAP, has been named our next Executive Director and will step into the role this July following the retirement of founder and Executive Director, Linda Saris.

In her tenure, Kayla has helped shape LEAP’s programs, strategy, and vision—expanding and strengthening support for students pursuing postsecondary and career pathways.

Now, she’s ready to lead LEAP into its next chapter—building stronger pathways for students and deeper partnerships across our community to expand impact.

Join us in celebrating Kayla and this exciting new chapter for LEAP!
