For 18 summers, Salem Sound Coastwatch staff and volunteers have been getting out on the water and along the shore to document what’s living in Salem Sound.

This summer, 31 volunteers joined us across five monitoring sites, searching for 22 target species and recording what they found. Along the way, they helped build a bigger picture of how our coastal communities are changing, one tidepool, dock, and shoreline at a time.

What did we find this year? What can these observations tell us about Salem Sound?

Come see how much the oysters have grown and learn how an upweller helps young oysters grow before restoration. Discover how oysters filter our water and support healthy coastal ecosystems.

Join us for a CoastSweep Cleanup at John George Park in Danvers. CoastSweep is a volunteer program that brings communities together to remove and document marine debris along our coast. By collecting and categorizing the trash we find, volunteers help gather important data that supports efforts to better understand marine pollution and reduce waste entering our waterways.
