SAFE is in the Beacon! 📣

The Salem offshore wind terminal, the project we and our neighbors fought for, the one with a community benefits agreement worth $3.5M+ for our schools, $400K in maritime career scholarships, and real union jobs is stalled.

Why? The Trump administration clawed back $34 million in federal funding last August, on top of executive orders freezing offshore wind nationwide. CommonWealth Beacon broke it all down this week (link in bio).

It’s awful. It’s demoralizing. And we said so.

But here’s the thing: wind was never our only path.

SAFE’s work has always been rooted in community and clean green jobs are only growing - North Shore MassHire runs a clean jobs program right now. We’re working on high heat, community owned energy, port electrification, and so much more. The work doesn’t stop.

Our ED Bonnie put it best: we’re working “in our little sandbox, where we have actual power.”

Salem’s clean energy future isn’t canceled. It’s being built by us, for us. 💪

A recap of the frustrating story of our Wind Port. Read what Mayor Pangallo and our own Bonnie Bain have to say about the future of wind power, clean energy jobs and the whole climate economy.
https://commonwealthbeacon.org/energy/a-tale-of-two-ports/?

Salem and New Bedford both received millions from the state to develop the sites of retired fossil fuel power plants into terminals that would serve as logistics and operations centers for the construction of offshore wind. But wind projects have long been struggling to get off the ground.

Tell Rep Moulton to VOTE NO on the bad transportation bill. The US House of Representatives is considering the BUILD America 250 Act. Unfortunately, the bill looks like a highway contractors' wish list. https://secure.ucs.org/a/2026-no-bad-transportation-bill?

Act now to demand more transportation options that address the climate and affordability crises. Urge your member of Congress to vote NO on the BUILD America 250 Act, which doubles down on the fossil fuel and car-dependent status quo.

Have you heard about the Big Oil Immunity Bill? Last Friday, US Senator Ted Cruz and Representative Hageman introduced a bill that would give Big Oil a get out of jail free card. The Big Oil Immunity Bill would stop states from Making Polluters Pay, suing fossil fuel companies for damages, and potentially even reducing greenhouse gases through legislation. Our communities are paying the price for climate chaos through extreme heat, storms, air pollution, and more. Fossil fuel companies are trying to avoid paying their fair share. This Earth Week, we need you to write your Congresspeople and urge them to stop this bill.
