The group was formed on April 21, 1977, for the purpose of promoting calligraphy in the greater Salem area and to encourage calligraphers to come out of hiding and gain self-confidence in their craft. One of our goals is to promote the fundamental techniques of making good letters by hand. We are not a school, but we sponsor classes and workshops. We are not a commercial business, but we will help
you locate and purchase calligraphy supplies. We are not a museum or an art gallery, but we organize and hang shows of our work. We are not an advertising agency, but we will promote and demonstrate our craft to the public. Our newsletter allows us to be a group and share news and advice even though we are spread throughout the Willamette Valley.
