I follow nealkshah. As an animal sanctuary caregiver and rescue person, I appreciate his wise advice which is spot on for reminding caregivers to care for themselves and insights into a caregivers' interactions with who they care for. He outlines key habits that brought David Attenborough to a productive life at 100, including a plant based diet and a passions that gets them up every morning. The last habit is keeping stress to a minimum- animal activists can't achieve that one till all the cages are empty. https://www.instagram.com/p/DYoP9DqOoB2/?hl=en

HAPPY SOD DAY!! Always a part of our International Respect for Chickens Month festivities. Our old friends will remember coming to help each year on Sod Day, but this year it was just the two of us, but the UMCAA helped tremendously with the prepwork a few weeks ago. We have started planting the bird’s courtyard- all native (except for the sod) and bird safe. Sitting on grass is like seeing an old friend for the birds. So cool, so soft, so clean for the hot days ahead. They were also thrilled to find Creeping Charlie is volunteering at the edges of things. Prettigood announces the arrival of sod. Ace volunteer Ali harvested Creeping Charlie despite her Lacrosse battle wound.

Animal agriculture is the pinnacle of the corruption of motherhood. Mothers Day is hell for animals. It's an embarrassment when women don't get the feminist connection about reproductive rights and animal production. If they could confine us to battery cages and gestation crates, they would. Maybe they will. I think MRC's post hits that on the nose. https://www.facebook.com/Microsanctuary/posts/pfbid02LHCgfMrKa1oXnTMVTncCxroowUSWVohd9mXDVw8zhN3jkE3p6CD6QSVYTao32rcvl Do this today, Mother's Day.
Urgent! Email takes 60 seconds! The House has officially passed their version of the Farm Bill, and it unfortunately includes the “Save Our Bacon” (SOB) Act language. This provision is designed to strip states of their rights to pass higher animal welfare standards and food safety laws.
We came incredibly close in the House, but the fight moves to the Senate now. As a New York constituent, I’m looking to and to lead the way in ensuring the Senate version stays clean.

ACT NOW:

CALL BOTH OF YOUR SENATORS: Dial 1-(202) 224-3121 (the Capitol switchboard) to be connected to your Senators’ offices.

TELL THEM: “I am a constituent calling to urge the Senator to vote NO on any Farm Bill that includes the ‘Save Our Bacon’ Act or EATS Act language. Please protect our state rights and animal welfare.”

EMAIL: Hit the link in my bio to send a message to both of your Senators in under 60 seconds.

INTERNATIONAL RESPECT FOR CHICKENS MONTH

Please post comments of how you will honor the birds and raise awareness about their plight, their moral worth and that non-violence begins at breakfast. We will celebrate the whole month of May.

What better way to celebrate the birds than with an orchestra of 158 cellos performing Happy Birthday? Watching over Chiquita’s shoulder as she responds to the movement and music. The way she looks back at us, as if to make sure we are watching too, is priceless. Audio UP on this one.

The concert took place on 21 January 2018 at the Vatroslav Lisinski hall in Zagreb organised by the Antonio Janigro Association in honour of Antonio Janigro on the 100th anniversary of his birth.

25th Anniversary of Chicken Run Rescue and International Respect for Chickens Month

Please wish the birds Happy 25th Anniversary of Chicken Run Rescue and Happy International Respect for Chickens Month. We have special features planned for social media through on the month. You will meet the first permanent residents at Chickens Run Rescue, and learn about the history of our work and some of the 1,228 birds who have crossed our doorstep.

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150249973580201&type=3

This Facebook album shows pictures of our sanctuary residents and visitors back in North Minneapolis where we started in 2001 till we relocated in 2016. These are just some of the visits- I only just discovered that FaceBook took the liberty of combining 33 of our albums into one album called “City Folks Meet City Chickens”. No notice, no permission. Let that be a lesson that your FaceBook page is not actually yours. Thanks Zuckerberg.

Some of you might see yourselves in the pictures from the past. So wonderful to have met you all.

There is a place in the heart and mind that changes when we touch an animal. We want city folks, especially kids, to have that experience but to do so as visitors to the birds in their own safe and familiar environment. One can't truly understand and appreciate the beauty, joy, intelligence, dignity, agility and zany exuberance of chickens without understanding the natural world they inhabit.

A thousand thanks to our friends at UMN@CAA who came last weekend to help with spring clean up. We worked, socialized with the birds and shared snacks with them and had good conversation about the important work we all do for the animals. We have several Work Party events over the summer months. If you would like to join the next one, contact UMN@CAA.

The status quo is awful and corporate lobbiests want to erase weak protections already in place. PIctured below are the Scott County Cows and one of our residents, June, who fell off a slaughter truck near St. Peter, MN. This is real and not the Minnesota we want. Took me 60 seconds to email my representative and I got an immediate acknowlewdgement that my message was received and recorded.

URGENT ACTION NEEDED: The House Farm Bill floor vote is officially happening next week.

Section 12006 (a rebranded version of the EATS Act) is still in the bill. If it passes, Big Ag lobbyists will successfully erase Prop 12 and other animal welfare laws across the country. This would force millions of animals to spend their lives locked in cages so small they can’t even turn around, and block states from passing their own food safety standards.
But we have a path to stop this.

Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna () has filed an amendment to strip this dangerous provision.

We need your representative to co-sponsor this amendment and vote YES.

HOW TO HELP TODAY:
🚨 EMAIL: Click the link to send a pre-written message. It takes less than 60 seconds.

📞 CALL: Dial 1-(202) 224-3121 and ask for your Representative’s office.
🗣️What to say: “I am a constituent calling to ask the Representative to co-sponsor the Luna Amendment and oppose Section 12006. Please don’t let corporate lobbyists override our voters.”
