The Buchanan County Fairgrounds recently celebrated its opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The community event venue supports Buchanan County residents and youth through 4-H and FFA programming, community events and activities. The campus includes a 41,000+ square foot, clear span, covered livestock and equine arena, a gymnasium, an elevated performance stage, commissary-style kitchen and multiple classroom spaces that can be configured to flex-to-fit and accommodate art and STEM classes, clinics, civic gatherings, private events, fine arts performances and educational program rentals year-round. We are very proud of our very own President and CEO Natalie Hawn on her recognition as the Y Woman of Merit at today's YWCA's Women of Excellence Luncheon. Natalie has been a very active volunteer and leader for the YWCA during her career and has left a lasting impact on the organization and the women and children it serves. Natalie doesn't only work hard for the business community as her day job, but she cares about community issues and volunteers her personal time to help make St. Joseph a better place.

The St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce's Agribusiness Committee hosted its annual Steak Fry last night. It's the group's annual summer social to celebrate Ag Future of America scholarship winners and their families.

Funds for these scholarships are partially raised at the Chamber's annual Farm City Breakfast. Requirements to receive the scholarship include attending the AFA Leadership Conference and pursuing study in an ag-related field. The total academic award per scholar is $3,200 and the total cost per scholar or additional delegate to attend Leaders Conference is $1,250. The local funds raised
pay for half of these amounts, the other half is matched by AFA.

This year there are 10 area high school students that have been awarded the $3,200 scholarship and seven area college students that have been awarded the $1,250 scholarship for the Leaders Conference. Congratulations to all of the winners! Thanks to the Purcell family for hosting the event at their home.

A unified voice for St. Joseph traveled to the nation’s capital last week. More than 30 community and business leaders participated in the annual Washington, D.C. Fly-In.

The delegation met with lawmakers and their staff members to discuss priorities including the strength of the 139th Airlift Wing, economic development and agriculture, workforce and education and healthcare. Participants also received briefings from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and heard from Gen. Thomas Carden, Vice Chief of the Air National Guard.

They also attended the Congressional Baseball Game! ⚾️
