SMOKE FREE LAW STANDS → Three appellate judges agreed with Circuit Judge Dan Kellogg's imposition of $200 in fines against Uncle D's Sports Bar and Grill for violating the St. Joseph smoking ban.
Tuesday, owner Dwayne Leer told the News-Press he hasn't decided whether he'll continue his appeal.
The panel from the Western District of the Missouri Court of Appeals issued a 12-page ruling stating even if Uncle D's could be considered a billiard parlor, the 2014 city ordinance doesn't contain a billiard parlor exemption.

GUILTY PLEA → A former employee of a local bar was back in court Wednesday asking to plead guilty to a smoking violation instead of having a court trial.
April Beaver, a former employee of Peterman’s Shamrock, the local tavern on St. Joseph Avenue, faced a charge of violating the municipal smoking ban ordinance. The citation said she was smoking in the bar last Nov. 5. Read the St. Joseph News-Press article: http://bit.ly/1Fy3Nus

809 SIGNATURES SHORT - A petition seeking to repeal and replace St. Joseph's clean air ordinance has failed to get the needed number of signatures. City Clerk Paula Heyde said the petition fell short by 809 signatures. It needed 2,568. She said he would then have 10 days from receiving the letter to produce the needed 809 signatures.
