Twenty years ago today, on August 28, 2006, we lost Cal to acute myelogenous leukemia. He was 13.
Losing Cal changed everything. He is why Cal’s Angels exists. We turned that grief into a promise: that no other family would face pediatric cancer alone. Twenty years later, that promise still drives everything we do.
Cal got thirteen years. We’ve spent twenty missing him and building what he never had: more support for families, more research, and more treatment options for kids fighting cancer. Today, that includes the Cal’s Angels Advanced Leukemia Clinical and Research Program at Lurie Children’s Hospital, launched through a $4 million commitment from Cal’s Angels. That program did not exist when Cal needed it. Now it does. That's Cal’s legacy.
