Last evening, MOAA ACC hosted the Second Annual Military Ball. Our honoree this year was SGM Joseph “Mac” McDermott. Mac has helped countless Veterans in this community as they have navigated through the VA system.

All money’s raise during this Ball we’ll go to support our First Responders and youth programs in our community. A huge thank you again to The Spot for our amazing meal!

🇺🇸⚔️ UNDERSTANDING MILITARY FLAG ORDER & THE HISTORY BEHIND EACH SERVICE

When you see the flags of our Armed Forces displayed, there is a specific order of precedence—and it’s not random.

It reflects history, seniority, and tradition dating back to the founding of our nation.

👉 Official Order of Service Flags:

Army
Marine Corps
Navy
Air Force
Space Force
Coast Guard

🎖️ A QUICK LOOK AT EACH BRANCH

🇺🇸 United States Army (1775)
The oldest branch. From the Revolutionary War to modern conflicts, the Army has been the backbone of ground combat and large-scale operations.

🇺🇸 United States Marine Corps (1775)
Known for rapid deployment and amphibious warfare. Marines are often the first to fight—operating as America’s expeditionary force in readiness.

🇺🇸 United States Navy (1775)
Maintains control of the seas, projects global power, and supports joint operations worldwide—from aircraft carriers to submarine warfare.

🇺🇸 United States Air Force (1947)
Dominates the skies with air superiority, global strike capability, and rapid mobility anywhere in the world.

🇺🇸 United States Space Force (2019)
The newest branch, responsible for protecting U.S. interests in space, including satellites, communications, and missile warning systems.

🇺🇸 United States Coast Guard (1790)
A unique branch operating under the Department of Homeland Security in peacetime, with missions including maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, and national security.

📜 WARTIME HISTORY — WHAT MANY DON’T KNOW

The Coast Guard is the only branch that can be transferred to the Department of the Navy during war.

👉 The last time this officially happened was during World War II, where they played a critical role in amphibious landings and convoy operations.

Since the September 11 attacks, they have continued to deploy in support of combat operations—just without a formal transfer.

🫡 WHY THIS MATTERS

That order of flags you see at ceremonies, parades, and military balls…

It represents:

Over 250 years of service.
Every major conflict in American history.
The men and women who stood their ground on land, sea, air, and now space.

🇺🇸 BOTTOM LINE

Each branch has its role.
Each has its legacy.
And together they form the greatest fighting force in the world.

Honor the order. Respect the history. Never forget the sacrifice.

Today marks 150 years since Alexander Graham Bell made the first telephone call from his Boston lab to his assistant in a nearby room, just 4 days after his 29th birthday.

Nearly 100 years after Bell's first phone call, Motorola engineer Marty Cooper made the first cellphone call.
