While performing wound care in a physical therapy setting, Dr. Scott Love acquired a flesh eating bacteria that led to an amputation at the knee after 21 limb salvage surgeries. Since then, Dr. Love has dedicated his life to educating others on limb loss, limb difference, prosthetics and healthcare.

Come listen to Scott’s history and his vision for Steps4Love during our October meeting, 10/8 at 6:30pm EST.

Next Meeting, May 14th 6:30PM!

Our Speaker, Jake Kokowicz, is the epitome of perseverance and inspiration. Despite a life-changing accident in 2014, Jake's determination has led him to incredible achievements. From a coma to a Master of Social Work, his journey is a testament to the power of resilience. Jake plans to use his experience, coupled with the knowledge and skills he has gained at SVSU, to help other veterans.

“I’ve taken pride in being a role model for other veterans with disabilities and this is where my interest in becoming a social worker was born. I want veterans — or anyone — with a disability to see that just because you have a disability does not mean you’re disabled. I enjoy helping people get to where they want to be, and I hope my story helps inspire them to reach a little further or dig a little deeper.”

Our Special Speaker will be Dug Becker, US Army Retired and now a current Doctor of Physical Therapy student at The University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences.

Dug has lived an amazing life and he states,” I have been blessed with a life full of amazing moments and people. Serving in the United States Army almost 21 years, I was exposed to people from all over the world thanks to overseas assignments and three combat deployments in both Afghanistan and Iraq. The experiences that stand out in my mind are intense moments of raw emotion.” Dug is a two-time Purple Heart Recipient and will share some amazing stories, sure to touch your soul.

Dug will relate to the listeners about the benefit of physical therapy and how he overcame personal psycho-social issues. Come listen to an American Hero who believes that “soldiers and civilians are entitled to leaders that will not quit on them; we as humans will always need a helping hand even when we think we do not.”

Steps4Love aims to be that Helping Hand for the Limb Loss/Limb Difference Community!
