Hosted alongside our partners at Greater Good Charities, this collaborative workshop brought community leaders together to learn how to establish and expand pet housing programs for domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters, and animal housing facilities.

When human service organizations and animal welfare groups work together, we help ensure that survivors of domestic violence and people experiencing homelessness never have to face crisis alone or choose between shelter and their beloved pets.

Raising awareness on a national stage during Domestic Violence Awareness Month! ⚽️💜 PurpleLeashProject.com

Did you know that up to half of survivors of domestic violence delay leaving an abuser out of fear for their pets' safety? That is why RedRover and Purina created the Purple Leash Project — to help domestic violence shelters nationwide create pet housing programs so families can escape abuse together.

To bring this mission to a national audience, our President and CEO, Katie Campbell, had the incredible honor of presenting the match ball during the U.S. Women’s National Team friendly against Spain in Washington, D.C.!

High-profile appearances alongside Purina and give us a powerful platform to spark nationwide conversations about the urgent need for pet-inclusive domestic violence shelters. When sports fans tune in, they learn that pet housing programs exist at shelters so that no survivor of domestic violence should have to choose between their safety and the pet they love.

Special thanks to longtime advocate Mariska Hargitay for joining us on the pitch, serving as honorary team captain, and shining a brighter light on survivors of domestic abuse and their pets alongside honorary team pet, Cassidy! 🐾✨

Noa Hefer from Purina, our Purple Leash Project partner, highlights why expanding pet housing programs is essential for domestic violence survivors and their pets. Because there is a clear link between abuse toward people and pets, survivors often fear for their animal’s safety just as much as their own.

At the end of the day, entire families – pets included – deserve to escape abuse together safely.

WHAT A WEEKEND! 🐶☀️ RedRover.org/SupplyDrive

The RedRover Responders volunteers have headed home after an incredible 72 hours building safe enclosures for dogs that live outside on the Navajo Nation in Shiprock, New Mexico! In an area where a dog’s safety is directly connected to fencing, these enclosures give outdoor pups their own protected area from other dogs, vehicles, illness, and additional challenges they may face. In a record whirlwind weekend, we built 30 enclosures for 31 lucky pups and their families! 🐾

This trip was extra special as five MAP (Mars Ambassador Program) volunteers joined us in New Mexico from Poland, Hungary, England, and across the United States. We were incredibly honored that they chose our Unchaining Program for their MAP assignment — how cool is that?! Working alongside eight RedRover Responders volunteers, our group persevered through the long days, unforgiving wind, heat, (and rain!) installing panels, putting together canopies for shade, stuffing dog houses with straw, attaching wire for dig-proofing, and handing out new treats and toys! There were lots of laughs, dust-filled faces, and of course, dog cuddles. 🐶✨

This was truly a collaborative effort, with our wonderful partner Banfield Foundation generously funding this project for the third year in a row alongside support from Mars, Incorporated ! We could not have done it without each and every single person involved in supporting this transformative undertaking — including you, our supporters! 💜

We are honored to be welcomed into the Shiprock community, and grateful for the kindness of the families we work with. This trip we were gifted with delicious homemade frybread and tamales, and enjoyed hearing stories about beloved pups. 🍞❤️

As RedRover President and CEO Katie Campbell shares, abusers often use pets as tools for control and manipulation — yet only 20% of domestic violence shelters in the United States can accommodate pets on site.
