The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation is pleased to announce Anna Sperber () as the 2026 Choreographer Awardee. The Contemporary Choreographer Award includes a $50,000 award to support the artist’s creative journey and continued work. Congratulations, Anna!

Ellis-Beauregard Foundation is pleased to announce the 2026 Visual Arts Awardee, Tania Bruguera. Congratulations!

Tania Bruguera (Cuban, b. 1968) is an internationally renowned contemporary artist, activist, and cultural strategist focused on performances and installations that scrutinize political power dynamics and their implications for social justice. With a career spanning over three decades, she has continuously pushed boundaries by exploring how art can intersect with everyday political realities, aiming to empower individuals to become active citizens rather than passive spectators. Bruguera's artistic practice catalyzes social and political change, leveraging themes such as power, migration, censorship, and repression to ignite dialogue and action.

Bonnie Han Jones is an Korean American improvising musician, poet, and educator working primarily with electronic sound and text.

"For me, the beauty of Maine in the summer, the coastline, quarries, lakes, and forests were my primary inspiration. Also my fellow residents were such a great source of community and conversation. After a very intensive first year teaching sound art, this month was about slowing down, paying attention, and listening - and about giving myself permission to do less materially - but to take time to follow each idea through all its rhizomatic pathways." The Project Grants Award is about to open.

The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation offers five $10,000 grants to support projects to be completed during the 2027 grant year. We are interested in supporting bold, compelling, and risk-taking work, both within and beyond traditional exhibition venues.

Applications will be accepted September 1–October 1, with a 300-application cap. Submit early.

EBF July Resident : Magdalena Bermudez is a filmmaker and educator whose practice examines relations between humans, nonhuman animals, plants, and technologies through essayistic film and video works. Her practice is research-based, often recontextualizing scientific or operational images to interrogate their formal and political implications.

“I enjoyed being in proximity to a range of artists working in other disciplines. My films and videos integrate many art forms like sound, image, text, and performance, and it was inspiring to be in conversation with the other residents. I was working on pre-pre-production for a project that involves visual scores, and serendipitously another resident Bonnie Han Jones was part of a show where she performed sound improvisations based on visual scores from Cornelius Cardew’s “Treatise” that we were able to attend. This experience has influenced the direction of the project and potential future collaborations.” M.Bermudez

The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation will co-host an open-to-the-community Sewing Circle with 2025 EBF Visual Art Awardee Marie Watt Marie Watt Studio , recipient of the Heinz Award for the Arts and the artist behind a major new installation for the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.

For these gatherings, which are integral to Watt’s artistic practice, she welcomes members of the community to join her in hand stitching (embroidering) panels that include flora and fauna indigenous to the Northeast. The community stitched panels will eventually become part of a larger visual expression. No sewing experience is necessary and all ages are welcome to join.
