In case you haven't heard, the Fresh Films documentary I AM ABLE is going to be shown on PBS, starting this weekend! If you haven't had a chance to see this amazing film that chronicles the experience of some of our young artists as they participate in the Quad Cities Penguin Project 2019 production of Seussical Jr. be sure to watch for it on your local PBS network or stream it on the PBS website. Here is more information from our friends at Fresh Films:

We’re proud to share that I AM disABLEd—a powerful documentary following nine young incredibly talented performers with disabilities as they prepare for and perform in the musical Seussical—is now streaming and airing on PBS in 43 states and more than 240 stations nationwide.

Produced by Fresh Films in collaboration with the Penguin Project, Augustana College, and the Center for Living Arts, this film is more than a story—it’s a national platform showcasing inclusion, talent, and resilience. Fourteen student filmmakers worked for over 12 months to bring this documentary to life, engaging directly with the artists and their families to create an authentic and inspiring portrayal of ability, determination, and creativity.

This milestone is a testament to the impact of programs like Fresh Films. By providing free, hands-on industry experience, mentorship, and access to real productions, we’re equipping youth to pursue careers in film, television, and digital media—while shining a national spotlight on stories that matter.

📺 Now streaming and airing on PBS. Check your local listings: pbs.org/show/i-am-disabled
Your support makes moments like this possible. Together, we’re creating opportunities for young artists to learn, lead, and inspire audiences nationwide—breaking down barriers and proving that every ability deserves to be seen and celebrated.

Follow the heartwarming stories of nine youth with disabilities and their families.

Our Penguin Players are still in need of a couple of kind-hearted, giving individuals to be Mentors for their program.

Here are the details:
Rehearsals: Wednesday evenings 6:30 - 8 pm & Saturday mornings 10:30 am - Noon at Center for Living Arts 220 19th Street, Rock Island
Mentor Ages: ages 18+
Show Dates: January 30 - February 1, 2026 at Brunner Theatre at Augustana College

Why mentors matter: Without enough mentors, we can’t accommodate all of the Artists eager to shine on stage this year.
We’d love your help—whether that’s stepping in as a mentor yourself or passing this along to someone who might be interested.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to change lives, make memories, and be part of something extraordinary.
