Rock Island Kiwanis Club

Rock Island Kiwanis Club The Kiwanis Club of Rock Island is dedicated to serving the children of the world, one child, and one community at a time. All are welcome, especially YOU.

If you like making a positive difference in your community, especially for children, then you need to belong to Kiwanis Club of Rock Island. We meet weekly for fun, fellowship and to serve. We work with our local schools through "Key Clubs" helping students develop leadership skills while they impact their world! We hold a few fundraisers through the year, namely Peanut Day, Rose Day and our Bags

Tourney. Proceeds provide scholarships and grants to deserving students and nonprofits. Kiwanis Club of Rock Island is the sponsor of First Day Fund which provides school supplies to needy kids in all Rock Island/Milan Schools including Alleman and Jordan Catholic Schools. Kiwanis Club of Rock Island is also sponsor of the Midwest Food Bank, which delivers to the QC Expo Center an entire semi-load of food each month, for 35 local nonprofits, with the only condition being they must GIVE AWAY the food. So, again, if you like positively impacting kids and your community, then you need to positively be a member of Kiwanis Club of Rock Island.

We enjoyed a great program this week from Lucie VanHecke with the Illowa Construction Labor and Management Council. Lucie provided valuable insights into the IMPACT Construction Agreement, as well as workforce development, apprenticeship opportunities, and the important role the skilled trades play in building our communities.

In case you didn't know, we LOVE hosting Kiwanis Terrific Kids pep rallies to recognize students who are excelling in their leadership, school work, kindness, or attendance each month. Their teachers nominate them & we come in to recognize them and award them a certificate, prize, or t-shirt.

There is a tradition in Division 17 to pass the traveling gavel at an interclub meeting throughout the Kiwanis year. Not only that but your club is encouraged to "decorate" the gavel in something that represents your town. Your Kiwanis Club of Rock Island put it in a football to represent one of the first NFL games being played in Rock Island at Douglas Park in 1920.
