Today, on Juneteenth, we celebrate freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality for Black Americans.
As we honor this important day in our nation's history, we also recognize the Black LGBTQ+ trailblazers who helped shape movements for justice, visibility, and liberation. Individuals like James Baldwin, Bayard Rustin, Gladys Bentley, and Marsha P. Johnson challenged barriers, inspired generations, and reminded us that the fight for equality is strongest when it includes all of us.
Their courage, creativity, and advocacy continue to influence our community today. As we celebrate Juneteenth, we reflect on the intersections of Black history and LGBTQ+ history and recommit ourselves to building a future where everyone can live authentically, safely, and proudly.
Happy Juneteenth from the Quad Cities Pride Alliance. β€οΈπ€ππ³οΈβπ
