Attention kayakers, canoers, and paddle boarders: a few days ago we asked "where is this" - and here's the answer! It's the Petten Street Boat Launch, located at 110 Petten Street in Charlotte. Genesee RiverWatch played an instrumental role in the creation of this launch, which was dedicated in 2020. To learn more about the history of this launch site, visit us at https://geneseeriverwatch.org/2020/12/04/the-story-behind-petten-street-access-dock/

See you on the river!

The Genesee River is a scenic river that flows northward through Pennsylvania and New York before emptying into Lake Ontario. It is one of the few major rivers in North America that flows from south to north, making it geographically unique.

As it passes through Letchworth State Park, often called the “Grand Canyon of the East,” the river creates a series of stunning waterfalls and deep gorges. Further downstream in Rochester, it forms additional impressive falls before reaching the lake.

Known for its natural beauty and dramatic landscapes, the Genesee River has played an important role in shaping the region’s history, industry, and tourism, making it one of the most remarkable rivers in the northeastern United States.
