READY4Schools Rochester’s education catalyst for quality schools. Investing in families, educators, schools, and policy. READY is a nonprofit READY, Inc.

is a nonprofit working to increase access to high-quality education for Rochester’s K-12 students. Our vision is for every student in Rochester to have access to a great school — a school in which every educator has high academic expectations for every student, the power of parents is activated, and every student feels supported to meet their college or career goals.

Here is what the tells us about the state of education today. The pandemic may be behind us, but its impact on students is not.

Across the country, academic recovery remains a challenge, particularly in math. The data reminds us that lost instructional time and disrupted learning do not simply disappear when schools reopen.

For Rochester, this conversation matters. Recovery requires more than acknowledging where students are struggling. It requires understanding the data, listening to families and educators, and making sure students have access to the support and opportunities they need to move forward.

At READY, we believe families deserve clear information about what is happening in education and a meaningful voice in what comes next.

The question isn’t whether students were impacted. It’s what we are prepared to do about it.

A throwback to one of our commercials, but the message still matters today. 🎬

Representation in the classroom matters. Research has shown that having even one Black teacher in elementary school can have a lasting impact on Black students, from strengthening academic outcomes to reducing the likelihood of dropping out.

When students see educators who understand their experiences, reflect their communities, and show them what is possible, it can make a difference far beyond the classroom.

We created this commercial to start a conversation about why educator diversity matters. That conversation continues, and so does our work to help build a stronger, more representative educator pipeline.

We’re proud to look back at where we started, and even more excited about what’s ahead.

Stay tuned. We look forward to a future of new stories, new voices, and new READY commercials. 🎥✨

Most importantly, we look forward to seeing the outcomes from our next READY Teaching Academy program at .

Every decision about our schools starts with the people at the board table. The budget, the priorities, which schools grow and which ones close: it all runs through them.

Our READY Power Lab cohort has spent this fall learning how those decisions get made and how families can shape them. On Tuesday, we're putting that learning into practice.

Join us on October 13, 5:30 to 7:00 PM, as we watch the Rochester City School District Board Speaker Forum together. We'll listen closely, talk through what we hear, and connect it to what matters most for our kids.

The best conversations about schools happen when parents, neighbors, and educators are in the same room. We'd love for you to be part of this one.

Every child in Rochester deserves to be seen, heard, and have their needs met.

New York State Education Department data shows that 85% of students in Rochester’s public charter schools (2024-25) are economically disadvantaged. Behind each percentage are children with talents, hopes, and futures worth investing in.

We cannot let debates about school models overshadow the children in those classrooms. Students across our city deserve access to strong academics, caring educators, and support that responds to the barriers they face.

Supporting children in one school community should never mean overlooking children in another. Let’s keep every child’s needs at the center and work together to meet them.

Rochester’s next generation of educators is already here.

Our first READY Teaching Academy began at University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men. Now, we’re bringing that opportunity to hashtag !

We’re helping 9th-grade students explore what it means to teach, lead, and make a difference in their communities. Through hands-on experiences, leadership development, and opportunities for college-level learning, students in READY's Teach Academy can build the skills and confidence to see themselves at the front of a classroom someday.

Because building a stronger future for Rochester starts with investing in the students who will help shape it.

What does it mean to be children first?

A children-first perspective begins with a simple question: What do Rochester’s children need to learn, grow, and thrive?

It means looking beyond debates about school type and focusing on the quality of each child’s educational experience.

Whether a student attends a district or charter school, they deserve effective teaching, a safe and supportive environment, strong academic opportunities, and access to the resources they need.

Putting children first also means respecting families, responding honestly to the data, and supporting solutions that produce better outcomes for students. Our shared responsibility is to ensure that every Rochester child has the opportunity to succeed.

📸 READY in action at RCSD’s Campus!

Here’s a photo/video dump from READY’s participation in an program, where we connected directly with Rochester students about civic engagement and the power of their voices.

Consultant Boose led an hour-long READY Youth Vote presentation with All City students, creating space for young people to learn more about civic participation, why their voices matter, and the different ways they can influence decisions shaping their schools and communities.

For READY, this work is about more than a single presentation. It is about investing in the next generation of informed, engaged young leaders and ensuring Rochester students have access to the knowledge and tools they need to participate in their communities.

We’re grateful to LaShana from and the All City School community for creating opportunities to bring this work directly to students.

This is what youth engagement looks like in action. 💙

Rochester’s enrollment landscape has changed.

Families are choosing from more educational options than ever before, each with different strengths, opportunities, and challenges. No matter which path a family chooses, every Rochester student deserves clear information, strong options, and access to a great school.

Understanding where students are enrolling is an important part of understanding how to support what Rochester families need and how our city can better serve them.
