Guiding Eyes Monroe Puppy Raising Region Our network of puppy raisers includes a broad spectrum of caring individuals from various walks of life. Some already have pets of their own.

They include couples, families with children, young adults and senior citizens. Raisers live in urban, suburban, and rural areas – and in apartments, town-homes, and single family homes. Sixty percent of our raisers are repeat raisers – meaning they have raised more than one Guiding Eyes puppy. We are extremely proud that so many raisers enjoy our program enough to renew their commitment to raise

another puppy. A few have raised as many as 35 puppies! The relationship and bond between the raiser and pup will become the foundation for all the life lessons a guide dog needs to master. Raisers provide hours of patient teaching and numerous socialization journeys over a 12 to 16 month period, before they return a well-socialized young adult dog to Guiding Eyes training staff. All of the raiser’s hard work culminates when a blind person receives their priceless gift – a guide dog providing independence, companionship, and mobility.

Next up for puppy introductions is Emmeline, another starter puppy!

Emmeline 5E26 is a 12 week old female yellow lab puppy, born on 1/21/26 to Chloe and Anchor. She is being started by repeat raiser Madison Malanowski, and arrived in mid March. Emmeline will be staying with Madison until May, when she’ll be going to her finisher raiser. We look forward to watching this cutie continue to learn and grow before she goes on to continue her future guide dog journey!

April showers bring… new puppies! 🐾

We have quite a few new puppies in the region to introduce this month, starting with our oldest puppy, Ziggy!

Ziggy arrived in the beginning of March, and is being started by veteran raiser and Fundamentals instructor Karie Livingston. Ziggy (4Z325) is a 3 1/2 month old female black lab, born on 12/26/25 to Sasha (from CESECAH) and Archie. She will be starting her future guide dog journey with Karie before she goes to her finishing raiser, and we look forward to watching her grow until then!

Nitro was raised here in the Monroe region by co-raisers Avor and Madison! Nitro and his handler Charles graduated with the Specialized Training Program in November 2024!

We couldn’t resist sharing this fun moment from Guiding Eyes graduate, and government employee, Charles!
 
During a recent visit to a military base, his guide dog, Nitro, briefly took command after a lieutenant placed his hat on Nitro for a photo. Naturally, Nitro stepped right into his role, proudly “leading the troops” with confidence and charm!
