ZIGGY’S BIG NIGHT AT THE BALLPARK!
Our future guide dog, Ziggy, hit a home run this past weekend! On Saturday, she attended Grateful Dead Night at Innovative Field to watch the Rochester Red Wings secure a fantastic 5-2 win over the Charlotte Knights.
The game was extra special because Ziggy got to join the staff at her raiser's workplace for an office appreciation night in an Individual Diamond Suite. Talk about VIP treatment for a very important pup!
While everyone else was focused on the game and the postgame tribute concert, Ziggy was busy checking off some major, high-level socialization milestones. A bustling baseball stadium is the ultimate training ground for a future guide dog, and Ziggy handled it like an absolute professional.
1. The Mascot Meet-and-Greet (Socializing with the Unusual)
Ziggy officially fell head-over-paws in love with Mittsy! Meeting a large, colorful, fuzzy mascot can be intimidating for any dog, but Ziggy passed with flying colors. Learning to stay calm and focused around strange sights and costumes is a huge step toward her future career.
2. The Bullpen Cart Commute (Vehicle & Surface Confidence)
Ziggy got to claim the driver's seat in the stadium's iconic, baseball-shaped bullpen cart! Hopping into unusual vehicles and relaxing on different textures or elevated surfaces builds the core confidence a guide dog needs to navigate any environment their future partner might take them. Plus, she looks naturally stylish behind the wheel!
3. Stadium Walkways & Crowds: Hanging out right by the railings along the main concourse allowed Ziggy to practice distraction mastery. Standing firm amidst heavy foot traffic, cheering fans, PA systems,and a wide-open view of the field is exactly how a future guide dog learns to stay focused in the real world.
We are so proud of how beautifully Ziggy handled all the sights and sounds. Way to go, Ziggy! You are hitting your training right out of the park!
