Our residential program provides a safe space and comprehensive trauma-informed care for girls who have experienced s*xual exploitation and trafficking. We provide wraparound services to adult and juvenile survivors of any gender, s*xual orientation, race, religious views, belief system, or background. The Lampstand also provides youth in area schools with prevention education curriculum in an eff

ort to recognize vulnerabilities and safeguard them from potential exploitation. We also train professionals and community members in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas to identify, report, and respond appropriately to s*xual exploitation and trafficking. No matter what line of work you are in, we believe trafficking training is beneficial to all career fields.

What role does the business community play in preventing human trafficking? A big one.

The Lampstand was invited to lead an educational session at this year’s Trade Expo. We talked about trauma-informed care, survivor support, and the important role business owners and leaders have in educating themselves and their teams on human trafficking.

Through education, awareness, and community partnership, we can help prevent and ultimately end exploitation.

Many people believe traffickers are usually strangers, but that’s often not the reality.

In fact, 81% of s*x trafficking survivors were recruited by someone they knew personally. While kidnapping can happen, traffickers are more likely to build trust and a relationship first. This could be a family member, romantic partner, friend, or someone the victim sees as safe.

Understanding this truth can feel overwhelming, but awareness helps us better recognize warning signs and protect ourselves and others from exploitation. It also helps us understand why leaving a trafficking situation can be so difficult for survivors when manipulation and emotional connection are involved.

That's why we work to train schools, business, churches, and groups. The more honestly we talk about what trafficking actually looks like, the harder it becomes for exploitation to hide in plain sight.

Awareness at the Table was such a success!

We loved partnering with to help raise awareness about what human trafficking can look like right here in our own community.

Conversations like these matter, and we’re grateful for businesses that truly care about making a difference locally. ❤️

Shoutout to for creating the shirts and helping us look our best 👏

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, shared stories, and supported the mission. One conversation can make a bigger impact than you think!

A huge THANK YOU to and for their incredibly generous donation to .

Ashley Spradlin, a volunteer for The Lampstand, gave her FBLA students at Northside High School a community service project and they took it seriously. They gathered all sorts of supplies and necessary items for the Safehome.

We are so thankful for the hard work they put in and servants heart these young people have. You guys are awesome! 👏

On this Memorial Day, we pause to honor the lives lost by the brave men and women who defended the freedoms we often take for granted.

We remember the fallen not only with gratitude, but with action. Because of their sacrifice, we have the freedom to make a difference, advocate for our neighbors, and create stronger communities equipped with knowledge.

Today and every day, we honor them by serving others with purpose, intention, and compassion. 🤍

1,582 students equipped with the knowledge to recognize the signs of human trafficking since January.

Our Prevention Education volunteer team recently gathered to debrief, share experiences, and pour into one another. Prevention education is challenging work, but there’s nothing more rewarding than empowering students with the tools to protect themselves and others.

What an incredible school year, we can’t wait for the next!
