A Historic Investment in the City of Roanoke!

Today, the Governor of Virginia announced RINGANA, an Austrian life sciences company, has made Roanoke its U.S. headquarters, production, and distribution facility. The company will invest $85 million over five years and expects to create 435 new jobs.
This announcement is the largest capital investment of any Foreign Direct Investment in the region’s history AND the largest jobs announcement by a newly locating manufacturer in over 30 years!

This win was truly a team effort. The Partnership, the City of Roanoke, Virginia - Government, Virginia Economic Development Partnership, and regional leaders worked together to showcase the region and tell the whole story of our manufacturing and life sciences chops. We are so proud of the work done and look forward to RINGANA joining the regional business community.

We are on the cusp of something BIG.

The Roanoke Region's biotech sector is now a force to be reckoned with, and people are starting to take notice.

We've long touted the anchors who've helped build this sector from the ground up (Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, Carilion Clinic, Virginia Tech, Roanoke Blacksburg Technology Council, City of Roanoke, Virginia - Government). Now that we truly have a full wrap-around ecosystem with assets like the RoVa Labs and Carilion's new Usability Works, the sky is the limit for biotech and life science start-ups in our region.

Big ideas with real-world impact are happening right here in the Roanoke Region.

Carilion Clinic is partnering on a new technology platform that uses AI and real-time data to improve patient scheduling, referrals, and access to care. Think of it as "air traffic control" for outpatient healthcare. This is helping patients get where they need to be more efficiently while reducing administrative burdens on healthcare providers.

This is another example of how the region's healthcare and innovation assets are helping shape the future of medicine while strengthening our economy.

Connectivity equals commerce.

Signature Aviation, the world's largest network of private aviation terminals, just broke ground on a $10+ million expansion at Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport (ROA). The project adds a 22,000 sq. ft. hangar, a 3,000 sq. ft. office facility, and a 14-bay parking lot, designed to accommodate the tallest generation of new business jets entering service today.

And here's what makes this even better for our region: Roanoke-based Lionberger Construction is leading the build.

This kind of investment is bigger than just planes. Business aviation connects our regional companies to clients, partners, and opportunities across the country and around the world. When executives and site selectors can fly directly in and out of Roanoke, it sends a clear signal that this region is open for business.

✈️ New Signature Aviation hangar coming to ROA ✈️

ROA and Signature Aviation broke ground on a new hangar and office development on May 21.

The project will add:

✈️ 22,000-square-foot hangar
✈️ 3,000-square-foot office facility
✈️ 14-bay parking lot

Designed with a 28-foot-high hangar door, the facility will accommodate a broad range of modern business aircraft, including the tallest generation of new jets entering service today.

Carilion Clinic’s planned $112 million inpatient rehabilitation hospital is another major investment in the future of healthcare in the Roanoke Region.

Developed through a joint venture with Select Medical, the new 50-bed facility will expand access to specialized rehabilitative care for patients recovering from stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and other serious conditions.

Beyond the impact on patient care, projects like this strengthen one of the region’s most important economic sectors while reinforcing Roanoke’s growing reputation as a hub for healthcare innovation and collaboration.

We’re excited to see continued investment in facilities, partnerships, and talent that help serve nearly one million people across Virginia and West Virginia.
