Our public transportation system provides essential mobility, accessibility, and connectivity for residents, visitors, and businesses, facilitating access to employment, education, healthcare, grocery stores, and entertainment. Through these comprehensive services, Foothills Express is committed to enhancing community connectivity and promoting a healthier, more active lifestyle for all. Many buse

s are lift-equipped, ensuring accessibility for individuals using mobility devices. We offer three public, deviated-fixed
transportation routes with stops at department stores, grocery stores, and local offices. Riders can purchase a daily bus pass or a book of passes at a discounted price. Additionally, we provide the EKU on-campus transit service, Big E Transit, allowing students, faculty, and staff to navigate campus conveniently. Beyond traditional routes, we offer personalized express service, enabling curb-to-curb transportation within the community on weekdays, requiring 48 hours' notice for trips. Intercity service connects residents from rural areas to larger transit systems, including airports and train stations, with reasonable round-trip options to Lexington, Louisville, or Cincinnati. The Madison County Connector Service provides a convenient option for traveling between Richmond and Berea for shopping, entertainment, and medical appointments. For Medicaid clients, non-emergency medical transportation helps prevent missed medical appointments and mitigate chronic disease impacts. All bus routes, including stop times and locations, can be found online at https://foothillscap.org/programs/transportation-department/bus-schedules/

Our Story

Click here to access bus schedules: https://foothillscap.org/programs/transportation-department/bus-schedules/

KRFDC strives to provide affordable, reliable transportation that allows people to access jobs, services and recreational activities. Foothills Express services include: EXPRESS SERVICE (CURB-TO-CURB SERVICE) Effective July 1, 2014, a 48-hour notice is required for all scheduled rides. Trips requested for Monday MUST be scheduled no later than 2pm Thursday. Rides are available for $4.00 for trips of 4 miles or less, or $1.50/per mile for trips over 4 miles each way. All trips are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, and are subject to availability. BEREA, RICHMOND, AND WI******ER PUBLIC BUS ROUTES Foothills Express operates a public deviated-fixed transportation route in Berea, Richmond, and Wi******er. Riders are able to board the bus at any of the stops we have set up for only $1.00. These stops include stores, apartment communities, city and county offices and businesses. Wheelchair assisted door-to-door service is available for no additional cost. Bulk passes are available. To ride the bus, stand at a bus stop. Have your fare ready — Cash or Pass. Our driver does not make change. A $1.00 bus pass can be used all day for only the date it is stamped for. After that date, that bus pass is no longer valid. MADISON COUNTY CONNECTOR SERVICE The Madison County Connector makes 4 round-trips each weekday from Berea Bus Service stops to Richmond Transit Service stops. The bus leaves from Berea Bus Stops at 8am, 10am, 1pm, and 3pm. The bus leaves from Richmond Transit Stops at 9am, 11am, 2pm, and 4pm. To reserve a seat, riders must call at least 48 hours in advance, and meet the bus at the designated bus stop. The cost for the round trip is $2.00. INTER-CITY ROUTE Foothills Inter-City Bus Service connects Madison, Clark, Estill, and Powell Counties with the larger transit systems in Lexington, Louisville, and Northern Kentucky. Rides must be scheduled at least 72 hours in advance, and the cost is $20.00 for a round trip. All Inter-City trips must be dropped off at a bus stop, bus station, train station, or airport in the destination city (i.e. Lexington or Louisville Airport). EKU TRANSPORTATION - BIG E TRANSIT Expanding upon a long tradition of community partnership, Foothills’ public transit program joined with Eastern Kentucky University to serve as its campus shuttle service provider in 2013. The deviated-fixed route will deviate for the general public with and without disabilities. All bus routes, including stop times and locations, can be found online at http://www.foothillscap.org/Services/Transportation.html
