Honoring humanism, service, and a legacy of compassionate care 🩺
The Ephraim Ochieng’ Otieno M.D. Science Foundation is deeply grateful to the University of Louisville School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine and the Internal Medicine Residency Program for honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Ephraim Ochieng’ Otieno.
🏆 This year, the program established the Dr. Ephraim Otieno Humanism Award to recognize a resident who embodies the values Ephraim carried throughout his life and medical training: kindness, integrity, empathy, and a deep commitment to humanistic medicine.
👏 We are honored to celebrate this year’s recipient, Joseph Holland, MD, MSHA, whose commitment to medicine, service, leadership, advocacy, and inclusion reflects the spirit of this award.
🌱 To our family, this award represents more than recognition. It is a continuation of Ephraim’s legacy, a reminder that excellence in medicine is not only measured by knowledge and skill, but also by kindness, humility, integrity, and the way we care for others.
🙏🏾 We are sincerely thankful to the entire University of Louisville Internal Medicine Residency Program for continuing to honor Ephraim’s legacy in such a thoughtful and lasting way.
Through this award, Ephraim’s spirit of service and humanism will continue to inspire future physicians for years to come.
