Honoring humanism, service, and a legacy of compassionate care 🩺

The Ephraim Ochieng’ Otieno M.D. Science Foundation is deeply grateful to the University of Louisville School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine and the Internal Medicine Residency Program for honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Ephraim Ochieng’ Otieno.

🏆 This year, the program established the Dr. Ephraim Otieno Humanism Award to recognize a resident who embodies the values Ephraim carried throughout his life and medical training: kindness, integrity, empathy, and a deep commitment to humanistic medicine.

👏 We are honored to celebrate this year’s recipient, Joseph Holland, MD, MSHA, whose commitment to medicine, service, leadership, advocacy, and inclusion reflects the spirit of this award.

🌱 To our family, this award represents more than recognition. It is a continuation of Ephraim’s legacy, a reminder that excellence in medicine is not only measured by knowledge and skill, but also by kindness, humility, integrity, and the way we care for others.

Building digital skills through partnership 💻🤝🏾

The Ephraim Ochieng Otieno M.D. Science Foundation is proud to support the Amani Liberty Initiative and its TechforGirls Program in Kenya.

🎓 The TechforGirls Program aims to equip girls and young women ages 12 to 21 with vital digital skills. Through computer literacy and creative technology training, the program helps participants build confidence, develop leadership, thrive in the digital economy, and break down gender barriers in technology.

💻 Through our donation, EOOSF is helping support the resources needed for high-quality digital learning experiences, including tools and materials that strengthen the current TechforGirls cohort.

🌱 This partnership reflects our commitment to supporting STEM education, community-led programs, and the meaningful work already being done to empower girls and young women in Kenya.

We are grateful to the Amani Liberty Initiative and its leadership for the important work they are doing to educate, mentor, and empower the next generation.

Honoring excellence, character, and legacy 🏆

The Ephraim Ochieng’ Otieno M.D. Science Foundation was honored to present the Ephraim Ochieng’ Otieno Excellence Award at the 2026 Model Laboratory School Senior Banquet.

🎓 This award was created in partnership with Model Laboratory School to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Ephraim Ochieng’ Otieno, a proud Model alumnus whose impact continues to inspire through athletics, academics, leadership, service, and character.

🏀 This year’s recipient, Riley Mollette, is a senior student-athlete whose integrity, academic excellence, and athletic achievement reflect the values Ephraim embodied. Riley is a gifted basketball player who broke Model’s career rebounding record and stands just under Ephraim’s name among the school’s all-time leading scorers. He also hopes to study medicine and become a Pediatric Asthma Specialist.

🌱 To our family and Foundation, this award represents more than achievement. It celebrates team spirit, hard work, dedication, humility, leadership, service to others, and the lasting impact one person can have on their school and community.

We are deeply grateful to Model Laboratory School for welcoming our family, honoring Ephraim’s legacy, and helping us celebrate the Class of 2026 in such a meaningful way. Congratulations, Riley — we are honored to celebrate you and all that this award represents.

The Ephraim Ochieng Otieno M.D. Science Foundation is proud to support the Telford YMCA Achievers STEM Cluster in Richmond, Kentucky.

🎓 The Telford YMCA Achievers program is a college and career readiness initiative that supports students in grades 6 through 12. Through mentorship, academic support, and exposure to professional opportunities, the program helps young people build confidence and prepare for their future.

🔬 Through our donation, we are proud to support their STEM cluster and expand opportunities for students.
