This is BIG news! The 2026 Keep America Beautiful National Litter Study has been released. Our first opportunity to delve into the data was last night with teens participating in our SAVE (Student Ambassadors for Virginia's Environment) program. Check out the highlights --- litter is down but we still have a lot of work to do!

Big shout out today to the Buckingham County Government and the Buckingham Anti-Litter Task Force (BATF) for their BIGGEST ever spring Roadway Cleanup Event! Our fabulous coordinator, Roger, assists with this effort, and they have reported 363 bags of litter collected by 100 adults and 15 youth. Here is a great pic from the Rock Mill Booker Mine Hunt Club litter cleanup and one of Maggie Snoddy, Chair of BATF, speaking to the May Fest crowd as part of celebrating the event. Way to go!!

We were so happy to do our part for Clean the Bay Day again! Our site was Ancarrow's Landing, and our 15 volunteers, including a great group from CBRE, picked up 15 bags of litter plus lots of cigarette butts to be recycled with TerraCycle US. Big thanks to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation for another meaningful statewide event!

The weather was a little chilly, but our hearts were warm last Sunday as we helped celebrate the ribbon cutting for the Hotchkiss Green project and completed renovation of the Hotchkiss Field Community Center with Capital Trees, Richmond VA Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities, and so many others! Thanks for including us in this super special event and Earth Day Festival!

What an amazing day we had last Saturday at the Keep Suffolk Beautiful and Suffolk Art League 2026 Suffolk Earth and Arts Festival! Here's a little video featuring just some of the many cool terra cotta planters folks decorated to accompany the native Virginia wildflower seed packets and other goodies we distributed. We loved being part of this fabulous event to celebrate sustainability, creativity, and community connection.

Last week we partnered with Publix for their annual . Every April, Publix team members give back to their local community by completing environmental service projects. A total of 25 Publix team members from around Richmond participated in litter cleanups and beautification events. With their help, we removed over 50 bags of litter from public spaces!

Thank you to our community partners, Capital Trees and Virginia State Parks, for helping us to organize events last week. And a huge thank you to Publix for partnering with us to keep Virginia beautiful!

Shout out to KVB Board member Amber Zufelt who partied at The Shack on April 12 at the MTV Spring Break Party! Amber is passionate about Kicking Butts - cigarette butts, that is - and loves spreading the word about turning butts into benches through TerraCycle US! It's free and easy and they have an e-cig recycling program coming on-line soon! We don't judge, we just want the waste to be recycled instead of landfilled - will you help spread the word!?!?

Big thanks to the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation for hosting an inspiring grantee luncheon to connect with fellow nonprofit leaders last week at the new CarMax Park , home of the Richmond Flying Squirrels! We are deeply appreciative of Dominion Energy's partnership and support, and it was energizing to learn more about the meaningful work being done across the Commonwealth to improve our communities. Plus, a tour of the new park was a total home run way to conclude the event!
