FAVOR of Virginia will forever be grateful to Michael McDermott for the many hours he spent advocating for better policies regarding folks with SUD under the FAVOR banner. Michael was relentless in his efforts to effect change in our community, and he continued these efforts even throughout a diagnosis and grueling battle with Cancer in recent years. Sadly, on November 9, 2022, Michael lost his fight with Cancer. Michael's successes will be reaped by many for years to come.

Following the loss of such an integral part of FAVOR, we have spent a significant amount of time contemplating the right way to move forward as an organization. After much careful consideration, we have decided to shift our focus to align with what we feel is the most effective way we can support the community we serve.

FAVOR of Virginia is changing its focus from advocacy to training the peer workforce. Our purpose is to improve the SUD peer recovery workspace.

Our vision is to be a transformative force in the recovery community by empowering a robust network of peer recovery specialists.

Our Mission is to strengthen the peer recovery workforce through comprehensive mentorship and educational training. We commit to enhancing the quality and accessibility of peer support and promoting recovery and well-being in our communities by equipping our specialists with the knowledge, skills, and empathy to inspire and effect change.
