The Virginia Housing Alliance (VHA) advocates for the expansion of housing opportunities and ending homelessness throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. VHA is the only statewide organization that represents affordable housing and homelessness organizations and the clients they serve. VHA’s positions represent the collective and shared priorities of its members. VHA empowers its members and supporters through advocacy, education, professional development, and capacity building.

‼️ ADVOCACY ALERT: On April 28th, the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) announced a proposed rule change that would effectively eliminate the Equal Access Rule (EAR). Established in 2012, the EAR currently requires HUD-assisted housing and programs to be made available to individuals and families regardless of their actual – or perceived – sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status.

The Town of Blacksburg's Office of Housing & Community Connections serves as the lead agency for the New River Valley HOME Consortium, which comprises Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski, and Radford. Established in 2007, the Consortium aims to expand affordable housing opportunities for low to moderate income households, strengthen public-private partnerships to produce and operate affordable housing, and invest in critical public services to prevent and end homelessness in Blacksburg and the New River Valley.
