Stop in for a spell! Saturday, October 31 (yes, that’s Halloween night, folks), from 5:30-8:30pm, PAL will be at Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan’s Annual Harvest Festival. The Harvest Festival aims to provide children and families in the Richmond area with a free, fun, safe, educational, and resource-driven place to trick-or-treat and enjoy Halloween! There will be candy, games, crafts, face painting, and a treasure trove of resources on healthcare, housing, education, and more! Plus, this year the Science Museum is opening up all its exhibits for the kids to explore!

A dog-friendly outdoor festival that raises funds and awareness for rescue and adoption? Count us in! Saturday, September 26 from 11AM-4PM, Prevent a Litter will be attending RAL Tik Tok ‘s annual Woofstock event. Bring a lawn chair, a picnic blanket, and your favorite K9 companion- with over 60+ vendors, live music, and a pet parade, there’s a little something for everyone! Don’t have a K9 companion? You’re in luck! At Woofstock, you’ll meet lots of adoptable pets looking for their furever homes. Swing by PAL’s tent for a $5 pet portrait, hand-printed swag, stickers, face painting, or a pet-themed blind box. It’s sure to be a groovy, paw-powered time!

The term “Pit Bull” encompasses mainly three breeds of dog: the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Considered a ‘bully breed’ and subject to breed specific legislation, they are by far the most 💀 breeds.

Pit bulls and pit bull mixes average about 33% of shelter intakes nationally, but in large cities the numbers are as high as 40-65%.

The numbers are staggering, but the math is simple- there are too many pitties and not enough people willing to adopt them all.

Until we can educate the public, convince them to have their pets fixed, and to adopt not shop, we’re putting a band-aid on a festering wound.

Because of fellow animal lovers and charitable donations, Prevent A Litter has been able to set aside funds that allow us to assist pit bull owners in need. Whether an owner is only able to contribute a portion of the surgery cost, or if we are covering the surgery all together, we will continue to assist those in need while our funds allow.

Here at Prevent A Litter, we strive to make a difference - a difference in pet overpopulation and a difference for the animals that call our city home. Whether it is an issue of cost or availability, we want to bridge that gap to allow owners the ability to have their pets spayed, neutered, and vaccinated. Given the current state of the economy, the need for assistance is greater now more than ever. Our male cat neuter request form is currently open for submissions on our website preventalitter.org AND we still have availability for June/July for just $65 per surgery! If you came to PAL over the last 4 years, you probably met her. Or, more accurately, Friday allowed you the privilege of meeting her. Our gorgeous, ear-tipped, three-legged, queen started her life outside as a stray feral. Then came freezing temps in the winter of 2022, and what began as a temporary indoor staycation, turned into a permanent residency. With patience, dedication, and a whole lot of love, Friday blossomed into the most affectionate, sassy, slightly ornery old lady you could imagine. She greeted clients from the top of her cat tree, silently demanding admiration and receiving it every time. We had to say goodbye to Friday at the end of November 2025, but her memory lives on through her namesake fund, Friday’s Feral Fund. So yeah, it’s just a sticker. But it’s also Friday: her story, her second chance, and the second chances she continues to grant cats just like her. The abandoned. The overlooked. The wild at heart. If you’d like to help give these cats the veterinary care they so desperately need and deserve, donate to Friday’s Feral Fund. Or purchase a sticker and remember her. Because we sure do ❤️

*This form is for friendly male cats only. For a feral male cat, the request would need to be submitted with our regular spay/neuter cat form open every 2 weeks.
