LGBTQIA+ History Month Spotlight: Bayard Rustin

Bayard Rustin helped bridge the Civil Rights and labor movements, championing workers’ rights as a path to racial equity and justice. A key adviser to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., he helped organize the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

As a gay man, Rustin faced discrimination even within the movements he helped build. His legacy reminds us that workers’ rights, civil rights and LGBTQIA+ equality are deeply connected.

Every student deserves a safe, modern school where they can learn and thrive! On November 3, voters in 47 Virginia localities will decide whether to adopt a 1% local sales tax. This increase would generate millions of dollars annually to fund school construction, renovations, and improved learning environments for students.

Four local school superintendents weighed in on the referendums Monday that would raise the sales tax to help pay for school construction.
