Please join us in welcoming Dr. Derrick L. Peterson, Sr., the newest member of The McShin Foundation's Board of Directors.
Dr. Derrick L. Peterson, Sr. is a native of Richmond, VA and three-time alumnus of Virginia Union University. In July 1996, he married his childhood crush Tania Lacey Peterson while they were undergraduate students at Virginia Union University. He is a Life Member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, Inc. He is the proud father of four children: Shontia, Derrick Jr., Darian, and Daniel. He proudly wears the title of Pop-Pop to his 3-year old grandson, Malikai.
He has served as a facilitator for the Richmond Justice Center Fatherhood Initiative and Program Director for Reentry Organizations serving the Virginia Department of Corrections. Throughout his career, he has received service and leadership awards from organizations such as This End Up Furniture Co., RentWay, Rent-A-Center, Boaz and Ruth, Inc., Toastmasters International, Alpha Phi Alpha, Virginia State University, the Southeastern Association of Housing Officers.
Dr. Peterson currently serves as the Director of Residence Life & Housing and Police Chaplain at Virginia State University and he is the Senior Pastor of Children of God Victory Tabernacle in Richmond, VA. He is also the HBCU Representative for the Virginia College and University Housing Officers General Council, a member of the Southside Regional Reentry Council, and Vice President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference – RVA Chapter.
