Yesterday, Freedom Virginia, Affordable Virginia, and the Suffolk Democratic Committee came together in downtown Suffolk. With signs, banners, chants, and conversations with passing drivers and pedestrians, we delivered a clear message: health care is a right, not a privilege, and our elected officials must be held accountable for policies that put families at risk.

Our rally called on Rep. Jen Kiggans to answer for supporting legislation that slashes Medicaid, threatens veterans' benefits, cuts SNAP assistance, and weakens programs that millions of working families, seniors, children, and people with disabilities depend upon. Participants proudly waved banners, shared personal stories, and reminded the community that these are not just budget numbers—they are real people whose lives will be affected. Summer's here. The electric bills? Not exactly giving vacation vibes. ☀️⚡️

For too many Virginians, every monthly bill is a reminder that the cost of living keeps climbing. This year, lawmakers took some important steps to change that.

Thanks to a bipartisan coalition led by Virginia's Democratic majority, new laws are putting people first - making it easier to lower energy costs, expand access to clean energy, and ensure massive energy users like data centers are held to a higher standard as they place increasing demands on our electric grid.

These aren't silver bullets. But they are real progress that will help working families keep more money in their pockets while building a cleaner, more affordable energy future for everyone.
