Connecting young people aging out of foster care in Wake County to the housing,jobs and support network they need for a successful transition to adulthood.

The Hope Center at Pullen empowers emerging adults adults who are transitioning out of foster care in Wake County with the support and connections needed for a safe and stable adulthood. Most teenagers can stay plugged into the resources they need to thrive as they transition to adulthood, such as housing and financial security. They are powered through their relationships with their families. But many young people leaving foster care are suddenly unplugged from all networks of support. The Hope Center at Pullen ensures all our young people leaving foster care can stay plugged in to the resources and supports they need to achieve a safe and stable adulthood. Our work begins in our Teen Programs, where we build relationships through our tutoring, mentoring, internships and life skills programs. Our work continues when many of these same youth enter our Transition Program. Our Transition Program helps former foster youth achieve & maintain safe, stable housing and guides participants as they work towards their self-sufficiency goals.

What were our team and clients up to in August and September? Here's just a little bit of the action...
1. In September, Teen Programs went on a college tour of NC A&T. Much was learned about the campus, student life and programs, and Aggie history. Thank you for having us North Carolina A&T State University.
2. In August, we wrapped up summer 2026 internships. 25 foster youth completed our summer internship program, working over 2,300 hours and collectively earning almost $28,000!
3. Some of the team after clearing out part of the future 'LINKS Lounge' space - coming soon to the HCP offices for our weekly Teen Programming events.
4.Transition Program youth learn about what's in season in our region and how to cook with the seasons at Food Equity Collaborative's Kitchen Compass series held at Hope Village.
5. A healthy, hearty, and local focused meal made at Kitchen Compass with Food Equity Collaborative!
6. One of our foster teens in the summer internship program designed and printed these incredible new t-shirts for HCP staff and youth through their internship host site.
7. Transition Program client Zykeria now has the life-changing independence of owning her own means of transportation! Thank you Wheels4Hope

October client programming opportunities are so stacked we needed two pages!
Our Transition Program youth will have the opportunity to participate in a farm tour of Burkett Farm through the Kitchen Compass series with Food Equity Collaborative, unwind at family yoga night, and learn more about sexual health.
Our Youth Advisory Board members are working on strategic planning for the future of their board and travelling to Baltimore for a conference.
In addition to their weekly LINKS programming, our teens are headed to DC this month to visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture!
It's going to be a great October at The Hope Center.

Stepping into September with a full calendar of programming opportunities for our youth! Our weekly Teen Programs event, LINKS Academy, starts back up September 15th and activities this month include a college visit to NC A&T, a LINKS exploration night to shape the future of LINKS services, and more. For Transition Programs clients, we have a parenting book club, male group, and the final installment (for now?) of the Kitchen Compass series with Food Equity Collaborative. Our Youth Advisory Board is also reconvening after a brief summer break and will elect their new Board President. Here we go, fall 2026!

Our August Partner spotlight is on our 16 summer 2026 internship host sites! Internships just wrapped up and it was a wonderful summer of growth and opportunity for our teens. THANK YOU to our host sites for providing this life changing opportunity.

HCP client RJ recently moved out of our temporary emergency housing apartment into her own place! She also recently graduated from Wake Tech and plans to enroll in NCCU to pursue an eventual law degree. Lots of exciting growth and changes, but the housing progress brought an obstacle: RJ needs a washer and dryer for her new apartment. Laundromats are expensive and time consuming, and the freedom to do laundry at home would be a huge weight off her shoulders as she continues to settle into a self-sufficient adulthood.
