Announcing auditions for the next show of our 2026 Mainstage Season:
The Revolutionists
By: Lauren Gunderson
Directed By: Yamila Monge
Stage Manager: David White
Audition Dates: Monday June 8th, and Tuesday June 9th
Running August 6th-August 16th
About the Play:
Four beautiful, badass women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. Playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat and try to beat back the extremist insanity in 1793 Paris. This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots and chosen sisters and how we actually go about changing the world.
Please prepare the following for your audition:
Auditionees may bring a short, one-minute monologue of their choosing, but it is not required.
Auditions will largely consist of readings from the script. Auditionees should sign up for a 75-minute time slot during which they will be asked to read scenes and monologues as often as time allows.
You are strongly encouraged to be familiar with the script. Perusal copies are available by contacting Yamila Monge at [email protected]

The Revolutionists character descriptions:
Olympe de Gouges (38): A "badass activist playwright and feminist" who is excitable, passionate, and a theatre nerd. She is a widow who never remarried to ensure her personal freedom. She is tasked with writing a play that will "rehabilitate" Marie Antoinette's reputation while trying to push for women's equality in a revolution dominated by violent men.
Charlotte Corday (25): A "badass country girl and assassin". She is very serious, hardened by righteousness, and "never been kissed". She is characterized by her determination to commit a necessary murder (targeting Jean-Paul Marat) and constantly checks a pocket watch.
Marie Antoinette (38): The former queen of France, described as bubbly, graceful, opinionated, and "unintentionally rude". She is a "fan of ribbons" who is initially oblivious to the severity of the revolution but becomes a sympathetic figure with hidden depth and "oddly prescient" thoughts.
Marianne Angelle (30s): A "badass Black woman in Paris" from the Caribbean. She is a spy working with her husband, Vincent, and is described as tough, classy, and "the sanest one of them all". She represents the anti-slavery movement and fights for the rights of Black women, acting as the moral center of the group
