Beautiful Day We're a non-profit granola company on a mission to connect refugees to the community through business, job training, and education.

Beautiful Day began in 2008 after a late night, a few beers, and a couple of good friends wondering what might help newly-arrived refugees start rebuilding their lives in Providence? Our answer: Why not gourmet granola? It seemed like the perfect food: wholesome, natural, satisfying, beautiful. We loved making it, so why shouldn’t it change a few lives along the way? The real answer, of course, fo

r what refugees need has always involved jobs and connections to their new communities. Starting a granola factory has turned out to be a surprisingly perfect solution. Fifteen years later we are now an established non-profit social enterprise. We still hand-make gourmet granola and bars (about 10 tons annually), while providing job training to about 100 refugees through 4 different programs. Our award-winning products not only nourish our community but provide each customer with an invitation to learn about refugee resettlement. These days we make more than granola. Another amazing Annual Volunteer Day for the books! We had a great time welcoming volunteers (old and new!) into our space for an afternoon of deep cleaning, organizing, and getting to know each other. We also made time to enjoy a delicious lunch, prepared by our Afghan Women's catering group.

Last summer, Beautiful Day hosted Marcela, an entrepreneur from Honduras, whose specialty is also granola! She joined us for 6 weeks, and we learned so much from this valuable exchange and were inspired to send one of our staff members to Honduras! Our Production and Training Manager, Saad, traveled to Honduras with the Institute of Training & Development (ITD), funded by the US State Department.

Saad's visit and the exchange program in general are important to our mission to celebrate cultural diversity and welcome different perspectives. Intensive immersion experiences like this one allowed Saad to bring new ideas back to the team. He shared his experiences with the staff at our weekly staff meeting. He said, "I met many people and gained a great deal of knowledge about entrepreneurship in Honduras. One of the key takeaways I had was the appreciation for what we have and the resilient community we work with.”
