Why support the CFS After School Programs? Because you can make an impact on children's lives.

Here are three key ways children benefit from the CFS After School Program:

1. Through chess, kids learn about and practice important life skills like mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness.

2. CFS clubs offer a safe and inclusive community for students. They develop friendships beyond just playing chess and create a sense of belonging and support.

3. Chess can help students do better in school. Research shows that when kids play chess regularly, they get better at thinking, solving problems, and paying attention.

YOU make today, #𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗗𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗳𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 so special to us. Why? Because without your support, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.

Over the years, after-school programming has had its ups and downs, but 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 on underserved youth across Oregon and Southwest Washington.

During last year's after-school programs, we served approximately 2,700 students in 94 schools across Oregon and SW Washington as well as two programs in Hawaii and one in Uganda. That means 2,700 more young people are better prepared for the future.

Chess for Success (CFS) has been using chess to positively impact school-aged children’s skills since 1996. CFS After-School Program is offered FREE to under-served youth. This program uses chess as a tool to build community, connection, and confidence.

Through chess, all students in CFS after-school programs are introduced to concepts including: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, interpersonal skills among other valuable life skills.

We integrate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) practices and principles like mindfulness and emotional regulation with chess instruction and play.

Your support is a game changer for the thousands of children that benefit from chess clubs and tournaments in Oregon, SW Washington and Uganda.

For many children, competitive academic opportunities aren’t accessible because of cost. 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙎𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚. Team competition in schools builds essential social, emotional, and academic skills that are useful throughout life. Students who participate in the Chess for Success after-school program develop resilience, confidence, dynamic problem-solving skills, and many other life skills. By giving our children access to team-based competition, we are investing in our future. That makes all of us winners.

As we embark on a new academic year we wish to thank the teachers, coaches and volunteers that help guide today's youth toward a better future. Thank you for helping build resilience, patience, and kindness within today's youth.

It’s inspiring to see support for Chess for Success, a program that empowers over 2,700 youth each year through the game of chess. We’re currently at 27% of our goal after just a week, and your help can make a real difference in keeping these free after-school programs alive for 15 schools facing funding cuts. Every donation helps cover coaches, supplies, and workshops that build confidence and leadership in students.
