push/FOLD Portland dance company | Community power through arts and movement education, support, and advocacy.

Working to develop Dance, Art, and movement education around concepts of Strength and Power, push/FOLD is the brainchild of composer-choreographer Samuel Hobbs. Established in 2016 as a tax-exempt 501c3 non-profit Portland-based dance company, push/FOLD teaches and performs in festivals, conferences, and self-produced events, and actively works with local and regional organizations and artists to

enhance arts education, interaction, support, and advocacy. push/FOLD's mission and vision: Community power through arts and movement education, training, and performances. Since our inception, push/FOLD's primary activities include artist commissions, movement and science-focused masterclasses, workshops, presentations using Samuel's Visceral Movement Theory™ technique, while providing student outreach and live dance performances. In 2019 push/FOLD premiered the Union PDX - Festival of Contemporary Dance and the Portland Dance Community Awards to address barriers to visibility and access for professional artists.
