💧 Our rivers take care of us, so we need to take care of them.

That’s the message behind nine years of the Waterway Cleanup Series with our longtime partners at Clackamas County, Oregon Water Environment Services.

This summer, 1,400+ volunteers took action across 64 cleanup events in 10 counties, removing more than 24,000 pounds of litter from waterways and natural areas. Every piece of trash picked up is a small action that adds up to a bigger impact for wildlife, our environment, and the communities that enjoy these spaces.

What happens when thousands of small actions add up? 💧

This year’s Waterway Cleanup Series brought 1,400+ volunteers to 64 cleanup events across 10 counties, removing more than 24,000 pounds of litter from waterways and natural areas across the region.

From the Clackamas and Rogue Rivers to Johnson Creek, volunteers showed up to care for the waterways that connect our communities, and help keep litter from traveling downstream to the ocean.

The series also included restoration work, with volunteers clearing more than 10,000 square feet of invasive plants and mulching 2,700 plants.

A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered, led an event, and helped make this season possible, and to our longtime partners at Clackamas County, Oregon Water Environment Services.

Then join us for a litter cleanup and trail walk at Lower Macleay Park this Thursday.

After an hour focused on collecting litter, we will walk along the Lower Macleay Trail together, where Lauren and Karly from Bird Alliance of Oregon will discuss the habitat stewardship work of Bird Alliance, and lead us through some species ID.

42 volunteers, 175 pounds of litter, and one cleaner Bend! 🧤

Thank you to everyone who joined us Sunday morning for the second annual Pick It Up, Bend! at the Old Mill District. Together, volunteers spent the morning removing litter from some of Bend’s most popular recreational spaces and helping keep these shared spaces clean and welcoming.

We’re also grateful to the Johnson Ohana Foundation for continuing to partner with SOLVE and for connecting our morning of volunteer action with Jack Johnson’s concert that evening as a Village Green partner.

That’s a wrap on this year’s Beach & Riverside Cleanup! 🌊

A big thank you to the volunteers and event leaders who made it possible. Across Oregon and Southwest Washington, nearly 100 cleanup and restoration events mobilized volunteers to care for beaches, rivers, parks, and public spaces.

From picking up litter to restoring natural areas and leading projects, every volunteer played a part in caring for the places we all share. 💙

This Sunday, September 27, is World Rivers Day, a global celebration highlighting the many ways rivers enrich our lives and encouraging communities to take action to protect them. Celebrated on the fourth Sunday of September, World Rivers Day brings people together for activities ranging from river cleanups to educational events.

One way to celebrate? Spend part of your weekend caring for a local river or waterway at a SOLVE volunteer event. Join us in caring for Oregon and SW Washington’s rivers and waterways, one cleanup at a time. 💙
