Decades of research show that drinking too much alcohol harms our bodies and brains. On the flip side, when we drink less, we avoid a lot of pain. It's not just fewer headaches and hangovers. Drinking less means a lower risk of serious long-term health problems. That includes cancer, heart disease and depression.

As mosquito activity increases during the summer months, we are reminding everyone to take precautions against mosquito bites and reduce exposure to West Nile virus, the most common mosquito-borne disease in the state.

Humans can get the virus only from the bite of an infected mosquito; the disease does not spread from other animals to humans, or from person to person.

Most mosquito-borne infections are mild, with fever and flu-like symptoms, but severe infections may cause encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) and rarely, death.
