For a long time, I felt pressured to follow standard rules and make things based on what I thought people expected. But real creative freedom came when I allowed myself to experiment in new ways, lean into my own quirky obsessions, and reconnect with my art on a deeper level.

When you create from a place of genuine joy rather than external obligation, your artwork holds so much more heart and soul.

Whether you're stitching a tiny cat, painting, or exploring a new craft, you have full permission to follow your own inspiration. You don't need anyone else's approval to make art that brings you happiness.

I want to issue a gentle challenge for your upcoming weekend.

Find just one single hour where you have no agenda, no obligations, and no ulterior motives. Just one hour of completely unproductive play.

Maybe that means picking up a crochet hook, playing with your cat, diving into a video game, or rewatching a nostalgic movie from your childhood.

The only rule is that you're not allowed to make it productive in any way.

We live in a world that constantly tells us we have to earn our rest through hard work or turn every hobby into a side hustle.

It makes me so sad when I see someone's favorite hobby turn into a rigid obligation.

We've all been there. You start feeling like you "should" be crafting more because you invested money in beautiful supplies, or because you promised yourself you'd carve out creative time this weekend.

But I have a wild idea: hobbies officially stop being hobbies the second they turn into a "should."

A creative outlet is supposed to be fun, something you genuinely look forward to. The moment it starts feeling like an item on your chore list, it's time to step back.

That's the antidote to that pressure. We focus purely on play and joy, not on deadlines or perfect progress.

If you need to put your hook down for a week, or even a month, that's exactly what you should do.

If you force your creativity when you're just not feeling it, you only end up breeding resentment. And that is a surefire way to stop loving your favorite hobby altogether.

I love crocheting more than almost anything, but when I was sick last week, my brain and body just wanted a break. So, I took one.

Choosing to step away for a few days didn't mean I loved my craft any less. In fact, that little pause is exactly what keeps the craft feeling fresh, exciting, and enticing when I finally do pick up my hook again.

It is completely fine to have more than one hobby, and you should indulge in them only when the timing feels right.

I designed the Kitty Crochet Club to give adults the ultimate permission to play on their own terms. If that means your project sits in a cozy basket for a while, that's perfectly okay.

When I was recovering from a flu last week, I decided to take a complete break from crocheting. But my hands still craved a little bit of tactile comfort.

So instead of working on any projects, I spent my quiet time winding up a bunch of colorful yarn cakes.

I threw on some sci-fi, got cozy, and just watched the yarn spin. It was so simple and required zero mental energy, but it gave me that soothing, repetitive rhythm I love.

Sometimes, we aren't in the mood to tackle a full pattern, and that is completely fine. Creative play isn't just about completing a final piece. It can be found in the prep work, the organizing, or just petting a squishy skein.

I built the Kitty Crochet Club to celebrate the entire, messy, joyful process of crafting, not just the finished product. We are here to enjoy the journey, one soft yarn cake at a time.

I know how funny it is for someone who runs a crochet business to actively encourage you to stop crocheting.

But believe it or not, I'm not actually in the business of crocheting. I'm in the business of FUN.

To me, having fun and preserving your joy is so much more important than any specific creative medium. If you're forcing yourself to stitch because you feel like you have to, you're missing the whole point.

We get so caught up in the "daily grind" that we forget we deserve play simply because we're human, not because we earned it through chores or hard work.

That is the entire philosophy behind the Kitty Crochet Club. It's a cozy, feline-friendly sanctuary where we prioritize play, silliness, and laughter over perfect stitches.
If it's fun, do it. If it stops being fun, put it down. No rules, no judgment.
