My business didn't start with a grand, ten-step plan. Honestly, it started on a whim.

Kitten KaZoedle grew organically out of a fun creative project I decided to revisit after I got completely burned out on my last business. I picked up my crochet hook simply to relax, slow down, and play.

I marvel at that transition frequently because taking a step back and giving myself permission to just play completely changed the trajectory of my entire life.
It's so easy to put our hobbies on hold for the sake of survival, or to feel like we have to immediately monetize everything we create.

But I started the Kitty Crochet Club because I believe we all deserve fun without an agenda. It's a cozy creative sanctuary designed to help you step off that achievement hamster wheel, quiet your mind, and just enjoy the process.

Guess what? I'm a real person.

It's crazy that I even have to say that, but in this age of AI, I feel like I need to remind people that I'm not a machine.

I write all of my own emails, I design all of my own crochet patterns, and I even personally crochet every single one of my kitty minis. I've made over 900 of them now!
I use tools and software to help manage the moving pieces of a small business, but the heart is still entirely mine.

I believe a hand-crocheted item holds so much more soul than something manufactured by a machine.

I created the Kitty Crochet Club because I wanted to protect that human spark of creativity. It's a cozy space built on the belief that adult play is essential, and that making something with your own hands connects you to yourself in a way a computer never can.

Pear season is officially here! But it also came with a side of panic last week.

I stepped outside for just a moment to gather some fallen pears from the yard, but I didn't pull the back door fully shut behind me. Naturally, my little rascal Chewie pawed it open and slipped right out.

I ended up chasing him all across the lawn, absolutely terrified he would bolt into the street or slip through the gap in our fence. I even had to pull Aaron away from an important work call just to help me corral him back inside.

Seriously, this cat is too smart for his own good!

It made me realize that while I love going off-script and exploring beyond the pattern, some things are just easier to manage when they stay put. If you make a mistake in crochet, you can easily undo it or embrace it as unique character.

Fortunately, my yarn is much easier to supervise than a sneaky grey kitty.

I grew up as a type-A in a highly achievement-driven environment.

If I came home with a good grade, the response was usually: "That's so great you got a B+! But what can you do to make it an A next time?"

For the longest time, I didn't recognize how deeply that conditioned me to define my self-worth purely through my achievements. If an outside element diminished my performance, I let it mean something negative about me.

Sadly, I think a lot of us let our artwork and our crochet say something about us in exactly the same way. Even when we're just learning. Even when it's supposed to be pure play.

I built the Kitty Crochet Club to be a complete escape from that achievement-driven pressure. There are no grading rubrics here. Your worth isn't tied to how straight your stitches are or if your kitty turns out a bit wonky. It's just about having fun.

My designated creative days are always Fridays.

I'll put on an upbeat, fun movie and start crocheting. Sometimes I'm working on upcoming market prep, but occasionally I'm just crafting for myself.

Having a specific day carved out just for creativity completely changes how I approach the end of my week. It gives my brain a scheduled time to look forward to resting and playing.

As adults, we're so quick to pencil in meetings, chores, and appointments. But we rarely put our own playtime on the calendar. If we don't protect that time, it gets swallowed up by our unending to-do lists.

That's exactly why I built the Kitty Crochet Club. I wanted to give you a recurring, monthly reason to put playtime back on your schedule. It's a dedicated excuse to sit down, slow your busy mind, and just make something cute.

For my first year in business, I thought I had to sell my art at every general outdoor market I could find.

While some days were fantastic, others were just awful. Trying to appeal to every casual shopper who walked by took a massive mental toll on me as an introvert.

I finally realized I didn't need to cater to everyone. I stopped setting up at those general markets and switched entirely to indoor nerdy conventions. I discovered that's exactly where my fellow crazy cat people love to hang out. Since I started vending strictly at shows that are a good fit for me, my energy levels have vastly improved.

I created the Kitty Crochet Club because I wanted to capture that exact feeling of belonging. You shouldn't have to twist yourself into knots trying to fit in everywhere. This community is a cozy haven designed specifically for geeky cat lovers to fully embrace who they are.

I was comparing myself to a fellow artist recently who made three times what I did at an event. My inner critic immediately tried to make me feel terrible about it.

But then I remembered something crucial. I am actively working to reduce how many shows I do to ease the physical strain on my wrists. So of course I did not do as well financially. I was prioritizing my health and my happiness over the hustle.

It unlocks this beautiful knowing that I can be wildly successful in whatever way I choose.

That realization is at the very core of the Kitty Crochet Club. We are constantly pressured to monetize our hobbies or reach professional mastery. I wanted to create a community where success simply means you had fun making something cute today. You are allowed to just play without any ulterior motive.

Hot take: you do NOT need to monetize every hobby. Sometimes, a pastime is great just for the fun.. the creativity.. the PLAY.

I’ve made the mistake of trying to turn something I love into income… and it became a job I began to resent (this is why there are certain hobbies I now fiercely protect and refuse to monetize).

Crochet tends to come with the expectation of getting good enough to sell your work. I’m here to tell you that isn’t necessary - or even desirable for most creators.

Only sell your work if you ALSO love the challenges that come with running your own business (I’ll be the first to tell you it isn’t an easy path).

Otherwise, just create because creating is enjoyable and fun. You don’t need a “practical” reason to play 🧶
