📰 NYPIRG in the news: New York Legislature wraps up 'least productive' session in years

"A NYPIRG analysis found the Senate and Assembly approved 759 bills this session, more than 100 less than last year's legislative session.

That's also the lowest number of bills approved by the legislature since Democrats took control of it in 2019, aside from a pause in lawmaking during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to NYPIRG. In 2022, for example, lawmakers passed more than 1,000 bills."

📰 NYPIRG consumer news: NY sends repairability labeling bill to governor

"'The Electronics Repair Scores Act will give consumers important, useful information when shopping for costly digital products while helping reduce electronic waste,' said Russ Haven, general counsel for the New York chapter of the Public Interest Research Group, which pushes for legislation that could extend product life. 'New Yorkers want value for their dollar, and being able to fix items to keep them running for the long haul is a good investment.'" 🪛

New York would become the first state in the US with an electronic device repairability labeling requirement law.

📰 NYPIRG in the news: New York Lawmakers Pass One-Year Permitting Ban for New Data Centers

"Supporters say the state should consider regulations amid a raft of concerns such as high energy and water consumption, environmental impacts and strained power grids that can increase bills for ratepayers."

New York lawmakers passed a bill pausing new permits for data center construction in the state for one year, although it is unclear whether Governor Kathy Hochul will sign it.
