WITNESS | Part II 10.19.24

As the second part of the trilogy, collected stories were shared on the washline and witnessed by passersby on 14th Street. Thank you to all those who quietly witnessed, those who felt inclined to share a story, and to those who held space for their community. New York City showed up for one another and that was a beautiful thing to witness.

We discovered that this abandoned lot used to be home to Saint Zitaโ€™s Home for Friendless Women. We are friendless no more in the arms of the washerwomen. We stand on the shoulders of giants.

A special shout out to our neighbors .mcgrath for exemplifying how beautiful it can be when women in art and community gather. And also to our guardian art angels

As the first part of the trilogy, stories of grief, difficulty, sadness and loss were collected on Friday. Stories were shared and transcribed on to cotton cloth. Thank you to all those who bravely shared their words and stories and to those who held and witnessed them. First look captured beautifully by ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿงบ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ•Š๏ธโœจ

Friday 10.18 - Sunday 10.20 | Join us on 14th Street this weekend as WASH! participates in

We invite you to share a story of grief to be witnessed and washed in community.

We will be erecting a washline to create sacred space for a collective mourning experience that honors the legacy of our foremothers. A trilogy, each day is dedicated to one aspect of a three-part healing ritual: Writing, Witnessing, Washing

Link in bio to share your words or join us in person. Location details for each day will be updated on the website.

On Sunday, find us at the River to do the WASH! 10am at 14th Street Park (across from little island). Engage in a participatory washing ceremony: words will be shared, songs sung, as we witness and wash the cloths carrying our stories. Engage in a community dialogue while we hang the wash to dry.

The Sunday ceremony will begin promptly at 10:30am and continue through the early afternoon. Come for the day, come for a little while. Either way, we would love to see yotu!
