Our music camp just wrapped up five fun weeks of rhythm and creativity led by our amazing instructors Andrew Andrew Wang , Dave Dave Lewitt and rising student teacher Sebastian Sebastian

From djembes, boomwhackers, body and vocal percussion to song writing, our young musicians all worked together to play a song at the end of each week.

Our campers were lucky to welcome music educator Dr. Tom Zlabinger Tom Zlabinger who worked with the students on Total Eclipse of the Heart- an unforgettable experience for everyone!

Here’s to keeping the music going all year long. We cannot wait to welcome them back in the fall.

1) Friday 08/14, the Jukebox Hero'z - A Tribute to Foreigner play from 7:30pm to 9:00pm at Lyon Park. This CT based band will be making their debut in Port Chester and it's also their 1st time playing in Westchester County overall.

2) Friday 08/21, the First Class Band NY play from 7:30pm to 9:00pm at Lyon Park. This is the make-up date, for their concert that was rained out on Fri 08/07. Here’s the FB event, which has been updated with new 08/21 date -> First Class Dance Band - Free Concert

3) Saturday 08/29 is Port Chester Day 2026! from 12:00pm to 9:00pm at Lyon Park. Food trucks, Vendors, Kids Activities and live music all day. The headlining band SoulShine: An Allman Brothers Experience play from 7:30pm to 9:00pm, followed by Port Chester's 1st ever Drone Light Show.

It is a thunderous start to the week every Monday with our instructors Dave Dave Lewitt and Andrew Andrew Wang at SoundWaves Music Summer Camp! Whether it’s buckets and sticks, full drum sets, or djembes, our young musicians are having fun, feeling the rhythm and making some serious noise- in the best way possible!

SoundWaves Music Summer Camp was honored to be joined this past week by music educator and Port Chester resident Dr. Tom Zlabinger Tom Zlabinger. A York College CUNY Professor of Music and Founding President of APME-NY Assoc. for Popular Music Ed, he brought his expertise and passion to our students for two inspiring days. Together, they worked on the iconic 80’s hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart” as a tribute to the legendary Bonnie Tyler. Our young musicians were the first group to use his music chart to bring this song to life, working on it for only a few hours!

We absolutely loved the energy, collaboration and excitement throughout the process. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Tom for sharing his time and talent with SoundWaves.

Today we celebrate the person who is the very reason our music program exists. He has helped create opportunities for many young musicians in our community- discovering talents that may have otherwise gone unnoticed and giving students access to affordable and quality music lessons.

Thank you for everything you do for the children of Port Chester and the meaningful impact you have made on the community through SoundWaves Music.

We are so proud to feature the spotlight on our incredible student-teacher, Diego Vega !

As both a student and student-teacher for SoundWaves, Diego has shown commitment and passion in sharing his love for music with fellow Port Chester students.

From growing up in Port Chester and attending Port Chester High School, to heading to Syracuse University this fall to study Film in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program—Diego’s journey is just getting started!

Diego’s love for music began early, from singing at eight years old to playing trumpet in elementary school band. As a senior at PCHS, he continues his musical path by singing tenor in the school choir and the Port Chester Sound (a PCHS A Capella group). He also served as assistant student director for the Drama Club’s productions of The Addams Family and Chicago.

His biggest musical inspiration is Freddie Mercury, whose artistry has motivated him to pursue music and achieve his dreams.

In his spare time, Diego enjoys creating and watching films, playing piano, and singing. He also listens to pop and jazz, and is currently preparing a piano piece for the upcoming high school variety show.

Diego encourages his students to practice piano every day, emphasizing that consistency is key to growth.

After two years teaching at SoundWaves, his biggest learning experience has been balancing school and work. He credits the program with helping him build responsibility, organization, and leadership in his first teaching role, broadening his perspective as both a student and teacher.

Diego believes that “we shouldn’t stop learning, we should continue to consume knowledge when we can. But at the same time, we should teach the next pupils the knowledge we know.”

We are so proud to have Diego on our team and can’t wait to see all he accomplishes.
