Sections of Plymouth County have been identified by the state as moderate risk for mosquito-borne diseases. The best way to protect yourself from these diseases is to minimize your chances of being bitten by mosquitoes:

☀️ Limit outdoor activity from dusk to dawn. As always, Wildlands Trust parking areas are closed during this time.

👖 Wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts outdoors.

❌ Use DEET repellent.

💧 Remove areas of standing water around your home, such as birdbaths, waste containers, and clogged roofed gutters.

Wildlands Trust seeks a full-time Land Protection Manager (LPM) to help grow our organizational capacity to protect land throughout our 60-community service area in Southeastern Massachusetts. The LPM will initiate projects, build relationships with landowners and partners, and advance land protection transactions to completion.

Applications are due September 15.

Shovels were hard at work at Church Green in June as Wildlands Trust stewardship staff and volunteers worked alongside Taunton’s Greening the Gateway Cities program to plant 7 trees on the historic grounds of the Old Colony History Museum.

The planting marked the first phase of an urban revitalization project at the museum, which will also include a native garden installation and parking lot. In urban centers, brick and pavement can often create a brutal “urban heat island” effect, absorbing and trapping heat from the sun at higher rates than surrounding areas. By using natural infrastructure like trees during development, we help combat this effect and build more climate resilient communities for the future.

Last week, our stewardship staff and Green Team members saw a swallowtail caterpillar climbing a tree at Fieldstone Preserve in Avon!

The July session of Green Team is a wrap!

We had a great group that participated in exploration hikes, bench building and painting, grounds cleanup, outdoor classroom building, and learning from conservation professionals. At the end of the session, the group spent two days at our Stewardship Training Center for a "camp-in" due to the rainy weather overnight and ended their time in Plymouth with a trip to Shifting Lots Preserve.

We are grateful to these hardworking teens for their dedication to learning and getting involved in their community and the environment.
