Hometown Laureates

Hometown Laureates Promoting poetry, spoken word, visual and performing arts throughout the Town of Plymouth, MA The Board of America’s Hometown Laureates, Inc.

(otherwise known as AHL) is in the final stages of creating a 501(C) (3) nonprofit established to promote poetry, spoken word, visual and performing arts throughout the Town of Plymouth. Our goal, to enhance connection through the arts, will take the form of readings, exhibitions, and events that will educate, entertain, as well as attract visitors to Plymouth’s vibrant cultural community. Current

Plymouth Poet Laureate Stephan Delbos has been an exemplary advocate for the arts since his term began in 2020. Due to limitations of the pandemic, Stephan’s term was extended until early 2024, when AHL will appoint Plymouth’s second Poet Laureate for an honorary two-year term. Stay tuned for more information on the America’s Hometown Laureates’ activities as well as how you can help or participate in our efforts to spread the word!

For anyone interested, we want to help get the word out:

"The Associates of the Boston Public Library is now accepting applications for our 2026-27 Alan Andres Writing Fellowships: Writer-in-Residence and Picture Book Writer Fellowship (previously named the Illustrated Children's Book Fellowship).

Both fellowships support emerging writers living in New England who have not yet published a book in the respective fellowship’s intended audience. Applicants may apply to only one fellowship, and winners are selected through a blind review process. Applications are due Friday, June 5, 2026, at 11:59 PM. See below for more details and application links.

For nearly three decades, Alan Andres was invaluable to the Associates Board, especially through his dedication to the Writer-in-Residence program. After his passing in 2025, the program was renamed in his honor as a tribute to his years of guidance and support. Over the past 20+ years, the Alan Andres Writer-in-Residence program has had a significant impact on the lives and careers of emerging writers; alumni have published or have forthcoming more than eighty books. Both fellowships are made possible by the generosity of an anonymous investor committed to ensuring writers can earn a living wage."
