Apparently, our scenario planning session was so focused and thought-provoking that we completely forgot to take pictures of the actual PEOPLE! 😂

The two photos we captured perfectly document the event: an empty sign and an empty presentation screen. Very dramatic. Very mysterious. Very Witness Protection Program. 🤣

Thankfully, the actual session hosted by Julia Och and the team at ElevateNP SWPA, with awesome consultants Will Toliver, Jr. and Jake Seltman from Procopia, was anything but empty.

We spent the day thinking through best-case and worst-case scenarios, challenging assumptions, and learning how scenario planning can help organizations prepare for the future without being ruled by fear.

Most importantly, we learned that scenario planning is about PEOPLE. Lots of them. Bring people from across your organization into the conversation. Different perspectives lead to better questions, better thinking, and ultimately better decisions based on logic—not just emotion.

New Century Careers learned a LOT from Julia, Will, Jake, and the amazing peers in the room.

So, unlike these photos, don't hide from planning! Embrace it. Bring your people together. Think through the possibilities. And maybe...remember to take a few pictures of the actual attendees. 📸😂

🔧 Who says an old dog can’t learn new tricks? 🐶😎

Our President & CEO, Neil, just proved that even after years around manufacturing, there’s always something new to learn!

Neil recently completed his FIRST MANUFACTURING 2000 (M2K) manual lathe project—and he took on the challenge just like our trainees do: learning the skills, following the blueprint, setting up the machine, and producing a finished part.

And yes… he passed the test! 😂

It took just two working days to go from blueprint to successfully completed part. That’s a pretty good reminder that with the right training, hands-on practice, and great instructors, anyone can learn to become a successful machinist.

That’s what M2K is all about. Our instructors at both New Century Careers in Pittsburgh’s Southside and Eastern Westmoreland Career & Technology Center in Latrobe provide the hands-on instruction and support needed to turn motivated people into skilled manufacturing professionals.

🎓 JUST GRADUATED? DON’T WAIT TO START YOUR CAREER!

Meet Malik, a graduate of City Charter High School in Pittsburgh. His story shows how getting connected to manufacturing early can open doors to both a career AND college.

As a junior, Malik became an intern at New Century Careers. During his senior year, he joined a pilot program introducing students to advanced manufacturing through online Tooling U-SME modules and tours of NCC.

After graduating in spring 2026, Malik was accepted into NCC through the Partner4Work 2026 Summer Learn and Earn Program.

This summer, Malik:
🔧 Gained hands-on manufacturing experience
🏆 Earned 3@NIMS - National Institute for Metalworking Skills credentials
🚀 Built skills and industry knowledge for his future

Now, Malik is heading to college to pursue a Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. During college breaks, he plans to return to NCC to continue his training and earn additional NIMS credentials.

🌎 New Century Careers Welcomes Honduras’ Minister of Energy to Pittsburgh

On Thursday, August 6, New Century Careers was honored to welcome Eduardo Oviedo, Minister of Energy for Honduras, and four members of his agency to our Pittsburgh facility.

During their 1½-hour visit, coordinated by GlobalPittsburgh burgh, Minister Oviedo and his delegation explored workforce development, sustainable training models, and the impact that pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships can have on building skilled, career-ready workforces.

Joining the NCC leadership team were Neil Ashbaugh, President & CEO, and Tanika Harris, COO, along with Greg Chambers (retired), Chair of the NCC Board of Directors, and Braun Thompson, PPG Industries and NCC Board Co-Chair.

A key focus was the success of MANUFACTURING 2000 (M2K) and how technology, industry credentials, employer engagement, and comprehensive trainee support come together to create successful career pathways in advanced manufacturing.

We are especially grateful to GlobalPittsburgh and its Director, Nadya Kessler, for coordinating this important international exchange. We also recognize the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) and the U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa for helping facilitate this opportunity for international dialogue and the exchange of workforce-development ideas.

It was a privilege to share the M2K model and demonstrate what is possible when industry, education, government, technology, philanthropy, and community partnerships come together.

At NCC, we believe successful workforce development has no borders. Sharing what works helps build stronger workforces, stronger economies, and stronger communities—here in Pittsburgh and around the world.

July just ran away from us, but we still want to thank a few organizations for supporting our work in the final days of last month!

Big shout out to Café Momentum Pittsburgh for allowing us to host some of your interns at our Southside facilities! With every experience, a new life choice can be made and we were excited to host these young people as they explored potential careers in advanced manufacturing.

And speaking of Advanced Manufacturing, the current pre-apprentices in our M2K tuition-free program were amazed by what is being machined, assembled, tested, and shipped ALL OVER THE WORLD by THE Vacuum experts at Kurt J Lesker Company!! We learned that cleanliness and precision are king in this industry, and sitting on that throne are the hundreds of professionals who proudly get the work done!

We may be caught up for now, but who knows who NCC might host or visit soon??? If you want to visit our site, let us know. If you're willing to host a tour for our pre-apprentices, do the same!
