Pittsburgh Poetry Collective

Pittsburgh Poetry Collective We provide a space for self-expression, social justice, and identity exploration through poetry. Wanna know the specifics? Check out our website!

Pittsburgh Poetry Collective is an organization that provides a space for self-expression, identity exploration, & social justice via spoken word leagues, performances & community writing workshops. Although we are a new nonprofit, some of our programs have been around since the 90's. We welcome any opportunity for lyrical mayhem and believe that poetry heals, speaks, connects, and shares our experiences and differences.

Words that shake the room. Voices that carry truth. Poetry Unplugged.

Poetry Unplugged: Still Dreaming! marks the 10th anniversary of Poetry Unplugged at AWAACC, a milestone celebration honoring the life, legacy, and enduring vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Curated and hosted by Orlando Watson, this powerful evening brings together Pennsylvania’s most compelling poetic voices alongside a special appearance by GRAMMY-nominated songwriter Khemist Mayfield, whose lyricism blurs the line between poetry and music.

Joining him on stage are some of Pittsburgh’s most electrifying poets: Diarra Imani, Thembisile Gxuluwe, Devantae Butler, Leslie Ezra Smith, Shockie G, and Mike Smalls, AWAACC’s 2025 Century Cycle Poetry Slam Champion.

Setting the sonic atmosphere is Selecta, a viral Twitch DJ known for genre-blending sets that amplify the energy of every room, spinning throughout the evening and into the after-party and open mic following the performance.
